Wildcats release Martin, Fisher and Woolpert

Article on News.com.au states Peth has cut Luke Martin and development player Anthony Fisher as well as assistant coach Paul Woolpert.

Also undergoing "biggest end-of-season debrief since Conner Henry was sacked as coach at the end of the 2008-09 campaign".

Slight overkill isn't it? Woolpert getting cut can't bode well for Gleeson, those guys are peas in a pod going back to their 'vile days aren't they?

Don't really think you need to announce that you cut a DP.

Yeah, the article made reference to "return on investment". Perhaps Woolpert was getting top dollar as an assistant?

Luke Martin was always going to be short term and Fisher is a DP so not sure why it gets a thread.

More importantly, looks like Beal will stay and they may look at a established high profile Marquee :)

Get Joel Naburgs in for Martin. Should have done that weeks ago.

Martin was the replacement for Ross. If he recovers ok then they are back to normal. However they will have at least 4 extra points to play with, which suggests they should try to upgrade either Ross or U'U for a 6 or 7 point bench player. It will be interesting to see if any of the points change this season, and if they are able to renegotiate contracts to take advantage of the lower points.

Woolpert was only ever here in the short term. He came originally only to help until their assistant Jamie was hired but then was invited to remain as a non traveling assistant. His wife and home is in the US.

Is carter contracted with nz for next season? With the extra points they can bring in a good back up pg such as carter. I'd keep ross and release u'u

No idea why the signed woolpert and Martin in the first place, Marvin only has himself to blame.

Hopefully no second round draft pick, need a legit mature import, no 20 yr old out of college. Ennis was a lucky find, give it a break.

Ross with a full preseason, will be good.

If Marvin signed Martin then the question has to be asked why is the gm signing players instead of gleeson?

Anon. I think it is standard practice for the GM to be handling the contracts though the coach does have a hand in recruitment

How do the loyalty points work? Will Redhage, for example, drop another point this year?

He should drop another two. Knight should get two as well.

Watched Martin play in Sydney Monday night - he looked done, he scored about 7pts before being ejected. you would hope a guy like this would be able to show up.
