Veal looks to bring victory to Flames

The G.E.T. Sydney University Flames have added Opals squad member, and former Canberra Capitals star, Kristen Veal to their line up. The announcement made yesterday secures the Flames another point guard as the countdown to the 05/06 season begins.

Veal began her WNBL career with the AIS in 1997 but made her mark with the Canberra Capitals when she joined them in 1999. She is excited at the thought of joining Sydney, and her fellow Opals team mates, after sitting out the 04/05 season. "The Flames are a good group of girls and Karen is a great coach" said Veal.

Born in Adelaide, Veal has lived in Sydney for the last few years but this will be her first season suiting up for the Flames. Stepping in at 176cm, Veal is an experienced player for her age and has featured in over 30 senior international games. She has also played in the world's best league, the WNBA, for both the Dallas Fury and the Phoenix Mercury. The Flames hope that Kristen's flair and skills will make her a crowd favourite both here and abroad.

After some time off due to knee injuries, Kristen looks forward to returning to the court. She hopes to help bring Sydney the Championship they have been chasing for the past few years and at the same time add to her already boasting number of four WNBL trophies. The last time Veal stepped out in the WNBL she was named in the WNBL All Star Five and Sydney will look for a similar performance when she takes to the court this year.

Veal's knee will keep her off the court until mid season where she will then look for a return to form in the WNBL and cementing herself a place in the Commonwealth Games team for next March.

The Flames are now only a few players shy of a full squad that has already begun training for the 05/06 WNBL title.
