Geordie Cullen left Hawks 10 years ago. He might have improved since then, maybe a cheaper alternative than Luke Nevill

Breaking News from the mercury via twitter Geordie has left the Hawks.

Taipans also announce Mick Downer (asst boomers coach) has not agreed to terms for 15/16 and is a gree agent.

New Head Coach for the Hawks - Mick Downer ?

Gordie is a huge loss to the NBL. His teams always played with discipline and structure that allwoed them to achieve more than the sum of their parts should have alllowed.

Hope the Hawks can bounce back and become a strong team and get the support they need from their community.
Also hope Gordie is back in the league somewhere soon.

Sad but its time for Gordie to explore other options for life after basketball.Hes had to deal with alot of instability off the court in the last few years which takes its toll.

Looks like they made an offer which wasn't enough $$$
United should've picked him up!

It would have been great to see what Geordie could have done with a team with a bigger budget such as United or Perth

this is good news for the Hawks, they need to rebuild and Gordie clearly hasn't put te time and effort in the last few years. I don't understand all the fuss on Geordie my view overrated, never won a championship and had decent squads ie west Syd and decent at the Hawks. Needs to explore a new career option but no Nbl team should pick him up as a head coach.

All well and good to say Geordie didn't do enough but you won't find a better coach for a budget team.

A lot of Hawks fans will find that the grass isn't always greener.

McLeod is as good a coach as there is and he has been ahead of the curve with regards to a lot of aspects on both ends of the floor.

He took teams to the finals that would have been complete disasters under other coaches.

Geordie overrated?

Geordie doesn't put the effort in?

Geordie is a consistent performer with budget teams.

How about some recognition ffs?

I would take Geordie in a heart beat at Perth right now

Annoy - that is an inaccurate and ignorant statement. How can you say that gordie has not put the time or effort in. Has consistently overachieved with a low budget at Wollongong. Spenceley screwed things up last year.

I'd guess they offered him a paycut and he said no. So now presumably they're replacing him on a budget.

Sad days indeed. Certainly will be a challenge for any new cosch with a small tight budget.

Luke nevill obviously has no ambitions to compete for a spot on the boomers team. He could actually make the roster if there are enough injuries.
