Great to hear LK commercialising the league.

Consultants and board appointments with appropriate commercial sports expertise, engaging with a proper branding firm... NBL, there's nothin better!

An immediate positive change now that Marvin is no longer in charge.

Sounds like the man is intent on making some changes, but who is Publicis Mojo, and what will a rebranding entail>?

A quick google of Publicis Mojo lead me to a site that is down and another one could Publicis.com

Not sure if they are the same. But the later lists the following brands: AirAsia, Nescafe, ANZ bank, Hanh Superdry, James Boag, QANTAS,

The Asian player outside of salary cap has Been written about
By me adnauseum on this forum and shot down relentlessly. It truly is the best way of getting Asian viewers who happen to be in our time zone. Nuff said.

Asian heritage is a bit funny however, Darren Ng would qualify but create little interest in Asia, Eban hyams is part-Indian. There was also a part-Korean guy who played for the slingers years ago but was essentially American. I think they need an Asian passport, not just Asian heritage.

Would Andray Blatche be classified as "Asian"? He played for the Philippines in the World Cup.

That's my point, clubs would automatically go for the best player available whereas the purpose of the rule is to encourage the continent of Asia to show more interest in the league. An 'actual' Filipino would create more interest but not be as good as Andray Blatche. One of the dark horses of Asian basketball is Lebanon and I hope a team actively recruits a top Lebanese player to also encourage those fans in Australia, especially Sydney.

The last allstar game or second last all star game didn't they invite a Asian player to play in the game from memory?

After the way he performed in the WC I think Blatche has well and truly been adopted!

What would be the back up plan for the NBL if a TV deal can't be reached? Will they pay to be on TV like the netball league does? Does the $2mill a year budget from Larry include possible expenses like paying to be on TV if need be?

Its just that after the disaster across the board from channel 10, I'm a bit skeptical.

The thing I like about LK is he is honest and a straight shooter.

Graeme Wade is full of shit.

Remember these quotes;

"We are well advanced with Television broadcast rights"

AND

"We are all over them and they are all over is"

Why can't people just be honest?

No, no its not.

For a start, wtf is an "asian"?
Are we talking Israel? Siberia? India?
I PRESUME we're talking South-East Asia, but even then there is no single market. If you want decent penetration there would need to be language specific commentary

First problem is that they need to get the NBL broadcast into the right markets with the right commentary. Really that needs to build of an existing broadcast deal, at the very least with foxtel.
Even then, people aren't going to switch on or off because of some random player who may or may not have some heritage in common.

If they could overcome the logistical problems, then having an actual TEAM from their country could be a massive draw.
Alternatively, you play a few games there, and get cities to "adopt" NBL teams. Maybe some form of pre-season lightening carnival?
It's all a great idea, but would require a lot of work, over an extended period.

Utterly laughable. With what the NBL have presented over the past decade, they would be lucky if they weren't having every door slammed in their face and every call rejected. I love the game, but if I were a broadcaster looking to make money I wouldn't be placing my bets on the NBL any time soon. Until the NBL lifts its game in numerous areas, expect for any new deal to mirror that of channel ten. If these changes are to happen, they will take a few seasons before broadcasters start really making plays for them

Yes remember Nick Marvin was in charge later and took over those negotiations so we know it must be true.
