Jazz confirm Dante Exum's injury: torn ACL

A possible torn ACL had been reported and the Jazz's team doctors confirmed the worst possible news for Exum.

The Jazz had been hoping for a play-off push in the Western Conference after a promising finish to last season, but general manager Dennis Lindsey said that was not the team's concern at the moment.

"First and foremost, our overriding concern is with Dante and his long-term health," he said.

So will he be unable to play in the upcoming season? Will he miss all of it or just the first half?

Zach Lowe (as usual) has done a great job of breaking down a lot of things about this:

http://grantland.com/the-triangle/exum-strategy-how-one-injury-put-a-crimp-in-utahs-plans-and-raised-more-questions-about-offseason-games/

How's this for an interesting grab? "Last season Exum might have been the worst pick-and-roll ball handler in league history."

Not surprised re: the pick and roll comment. He wasn't aggressive in taking it to the basket, nor was he a strong shooter off the dribble. If you're the defender you just go under the screen and stop the pass.

I actually think the year off could be a blessing in disguise. Rehab, build up body strength, work on his shot, and then hit the court in 2016.

He had a year of that before getting drafted.

Its hard to learn the nuances of the pick n roll without getting getting reps against nba level athletes. Coming back with a smooth stroke would help. I'm not sure how big and strong you want a point guard to get. It would be good for him to get stronger although stay at his current body weight.

If I were the Jazz I would tank for Simmons

He did, but he was also 18 going on 19. Reality is that he's not going to be able to score around the basket without more muscle. It will help his explosiveness too - he doesn't elevate nearly enough when he does go to the basket, just sort of floats up.

He either needs to become a Shaun Livingston type of player who can take guys down low and knock down the midrange jumper, or bulk up.
