Changes to FIBA qualifying and what they will mean

Here is one of many articles discussing the changes: http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2015/08/14/new-fiba-schedule-boon-boomers

It looks like we can look forward to more games each year, but possibly less with NBA players. The FIBA managed competitions will pause for some of the international games (includes NBL), but NBA and college hoops will not. We will qualify through Asia, which would seem a very simple thing to do, except we will be lacking our very best players to do it.

It looks like there will be an Australia A and an Australia B team. One, our very best; and the other, comparable to the Sino-Aus team.

Nothing new in this.

However it is a great chance to see plenty more Boomers games on home soil more frequently, and a chance for both Australia and New Zealand to qualify directly.

With 7 teams out of oceania/asia to qualify, it would surprise me greatly of Aus and NZ didnt qualify. Our nearest competition is, China?

The opportunity for both Aus and NZ to qualify, alone makes this promising news!

current FIBA Asia champions are Iran.

Iran, Philippines and Korea qualified for the World Cup 2014. China ended up 5th at FIFA Asia 2013.
