Wildcats Game-Night Entertainment 2015/16
What did everyone think about the game-night entertainment in the first game? Here are some of my thoughts:
Live drums - a nice touch, using drummers to make the beat for the defence/other chants. Wherever "natural" noise/sound can be used over artificial, I'm in favour of that. Reminded me of a similar setup they have at Lakers games.
Music - was it just me or did it seem louder than normal? and too loud. Also there were a couple of 'dreary' tracks on the playlist that need to be eliminated. Basketball is known for its fast pace so lets keep the tunes to ones which have a clearly discernible beat and one that is medium to fast. A differentiation for bball as an entertainment product is its non-stop action. Don't put fans to sleep with poor music choices.
Starting 5 - They should take more of a NBA-type approach where they play the introductory "hype" video before announcing the Cats starters. Usually in the NBA this is accompanied by dimming of the lights but not sure if this is possible at Perth Arena. Liked how the players got involved in the starting 5 theatrics with choreographed handshakes/routines etc, the fans love this stuff. But the whole starting 5 thing is an opportunity to make it even more exciting for the fans and "celebritise" your team. Also the music was too loud whilst the starters were being announced so you could barely make out what the courtside announcer was saying. Which is a shame because I think he did a good job of hyping with the ol' "from
Half-court shot: I noted the prize is only $1,000 - seems pretty cheap? Surely the NBL with their vehicle partner could do up a sponsorship deal to give away a car. The car sponsor would get several mentions during the game and could spread their risk over the whole schedule of all teams. If they wanted to minimise their financial commitment then make it more difficult for the contestant to win (e.g. the "Triple Shot" approach used last year by the Cats). If my memory serves me correctly, no one hit from half court last year so it is low probability.
Regarding the "Dunk" team and the cheerleaders, I would prefer a more professional outfit instead of what appears to be younger kids/adults, but I guess this is constrained by budget.
