X&Os: Breaking down Adelaide's offense and defense

Liam Flynn has analysed Adelaide's FIST offense and their disruptive team defense. Some great insights provided, including from the players.

Examining Adelaide coach Joey Wright's FIST offense

As Wright recalls, "Me, Rat (Radliff) and Blacky (Black) just kind of sat down in the gym and said what about this, what about that, and just came up with (the offense) and all the little reads and wrinkles."

Wright has been using the FIST offense ever since.

Dissecting Adelaide’s disruptive team defense

“There’s a lot of us guys, with a lot of speed and athleticism, that (can) cause some havoc on the defensive end, get up the floor, pressure guys,” explained Nathan Sobey. “It can really cause problems for teams that don’t want to play that way. That’s the way we want to play.”

This underpins Wright’s defensive system.

Trevor Gleeson is copying this system down as we speak.

Gleeson only copied the X's, then thought of how he can argue with the refs about something.

After he left the 36ers didn't Liam Flynn get an assistant gig with the Crocs?

Liam is tweeting good stuff under @coachflynn7 during NBL games. Worth a follow if you'd like to get a bit of strategic insight while play is live.
