Damo replacement options

With the injury to Damian Martin last night versus Townsville the question must be asked what happens now?
Are there any Aussie or Kiwi guards available?
Will they simply upgrade Corban Wroe to main roster?
Do they replace Prather with another combo or point guard and sign temporary local also?

What are your thoughts guys?

Daniel Dillon or Ben Madgen are both playing in Europe.

Not sure there's much unsigned local talent left at this point.

Mike Dunigan!

(Probably shouldn't joke about that though after we replaced Greenwood with Jawai :p)

Surely Ricky Grace can take some time off Role Models WA and step in.

I don't think Wroe is ready to handle that.

Jarrod Weeks ?

Pretty sure that Hawks can't sign him after Rhys Martin returns because he was an injury replacement.

Other than that there aren't really many options.
Kenny has done well but needs someone to back him up.

Im also impressed with Kenny so far and like the idea of adding Weeks.
It's unfortunate that the Hawks can't keep him but wonder how long Rhys Martin will be out for

PC is fully fit and god knows Perth could use a pure shooter! Id upgrade Prather he not great to a PG and bring PC in as some offensive insurance.

What does Drake do that Kenny doesn't already do. I would argue that Kenny already does everything better than what U'u did.

Trian Illiadis would be a better backup to Kenny than Wroe anyway. Why they overlooked him for Wroe in the first place boggles my mind, but then again Trian is from Perth and Wroe is not, must mean Wroe is better.

Weeks would be a great pickup if available

Drake would be crazy to leave his job with Sacramento for a backup PG position at the wildcats

Who is this Iliadis lover who keeps putting his name forward?

Iliadis is a good player in the SBL, not a great defender, or PG type player that we need. Not strong enough for NBL

Marcel Jones is one local who's available, if Prather played more at SG.

Illiadis and Gavin Field are both NBL quality players

Did anyone see Greg Hire play in the SBL before he got an NBL gig?
Tom Jervis?

Going back a few years Cam Tovey?

I would put Illiadis and Field ahead of where these guys were at the same stage in their career. Opportunity is all they need.

How about Benny Lewis, saw he is back playing NBA Dleague, maybe he could come help the 2nd unit and put up some points.

Swap Prather for a scoring PG and sign a local backup scorer?
Whilst I am warming to Prather, given our plethora of forwards this is not a bad idea.

My concern is that over recent times the Cats had adopted a very soft approach to injury replacement. Last year they brought in Muo and Luke Martin, and this year they did nothing to replace Martin when he was injured for the start of the season.
I suspect that what we will see is a continuation of what we've had so far: Kenny starting, Beal occasionally moving to the point, Wroe getting some minutes, and pick up somebody like PC to fill a spot on the bench.

In Peter Crawford
Homicide Willams

Out Casey Prather
Damian Martin

Ebe Ere to be sacked, signs with wildcats, loses 15 kg and wins grand final mvp. That would be funny to the fickle 6ers fans!

For team balance i am in favour of swapping Prather for a scoring point guard and getting Crawford to fill in while Martin is out.
Prather would be a good fit for some teams not Perth unfortunately

I only ponder this because I'm sure it's an avenue Perth will pursue if at all possible:
Is there ANY mechanism, loophole, etc, under which a team can be allowed an extra import?
(No, I'm not being an "arrogant Perth fan.") I just figure if there is even a small chance of this, Perth will make a argument.

Jarrod Kenny is woeful, Perth will struggle giving him big minutes. Kenny cant shoot, very average playmaker and I dont know what people see in him. From the Perth games I've watched he seems like a liability out there offensively.

The stats say that Can't-Shoot Kenny is top 5 in the league in 3P% for players that attempt at least one per game.
But, if you say so...

We also see in him a pretty good perimeter defender, and solid decision-maker, just FYI.
You're right that we'll struggle giving him big minutes though. Right now he's averaging 26.5 per game, so there aren't a whole lot more we can send his way.

I think people are focussing too much on the idea that we need another point guard. Perth will look for the best guard they can get for the points, and adapt accordingly.

Kenney is a good shooter, but he's not really a play making point guard. Seems afraid of driving.

Kenny's funny to watch. He had a open look, thought about, went the pump, didn't shoot, thought about it again, clearly did not want to take the shot so he passed off, nobody can get a shot off, clock is down to seconds, suddenly kicks back out to Kenny (in the same corner) he has no choice but to throw up a shot and he drains it.

That's actually good basketball. You don't have to take the first shot that comes to you, work your offence and get a better shot. He plays with a high level of maturity and patience and has been rock solid for Perth so far.

Article in tomorrow's paper saying they're unlike to go with any replacement at all, and they'll just upgrade Corban Wroe to a roster spot.

Can't see that working particularly well.

Don't see a huge issue with that. Who else could they bring in? After the luke Martin disaster of last year im wary of what's out there. Weeks would be the only one who looks the goods but is it clear yet whether the Hawks will keep him when rhys Martin comes back?

Also, roe has been respectable in his spot minutes so far. Cats have a lot of depth we'll just have to see more of dolla at pg, prather at sg and then the likes of redhage at sf

I don't think they need to go to extremes in replacing him. They are in second spot still and they got there without having Damo or Prather for most of it. The problem is that they don't use Wroe unless it's a blow out so they need to get someone they are going to actually play for 5-10 mins a game. If Weeks is available he would be perfect otherwise Eric Burdon could help with Perth perimeter woes.

I wouldn't think an import change is required and Kenny has played beyond expectations.
I would go for PC.

Also have to remember that with his new contract and loyalty, Damo is only a 6 point player. Not sure what Kenny counts as, but I suspect they were close to the limit, so not sure what they would have available for a replacement. I'm pretty sure anyone who's been playing in Europe, etc, would be out.
So you're left picking through unsigned locals...

Which is why PC is a good option however they're second on the ladder and that's with Martin missing most games already so no need to rush a decision on a replacement
