Woodville vs. Sturt

Woodville won by 8. can't remember the exact score.

Awesome game. Well fought by both teams. Fuller played great for Woodville, held off Darren Ng well in the second half. Great shooting from Oscar and Darren.

Go that green train!

111-105. Highlights easily were Rees' all net triple from top of the arc, and Oscar's fairly tame dunk.

Now for all the doubters that had woodville finishing wooden spooners including some of our own supporters

with the loss of whitmore, vandenbergh, hammond, ng, bradley SO many thought they would not be competitive

WTG guys you are already winners in my book

Actually, another highlight I should mention is Tree (Matt Elder) recording 3 blocks in under a minute as he swatted anything the Sabres tried to put up in the 4th. Inspirational stuff that seemed to lift the Warriors just when they needed it.

Big Tom Finklemyer had a pretty good game but a nightmare 3rd quarter, getting blocked by Elder on consecutive trips down the court, and then misssing an open court lay-up. Sturt just about handed Woddville the game at the end of the 3rd quarter, by taking some ridiculous shot attempts in order to try and get close, but ended up damaging them going into the last quarter down by 12.

Oscar has a shocker, missing a lot of open shots that he really needed to hit considering that is all that he seems to do. Ng fought hard all night and Fuller was the had a great game...2 threes and great D. Rees and Elder won the battle of the bigs with Gower and Finklemyer. Hakendorf, Vaughn and M Bauer played well in their time, but losing P Bauer in the 1st quarter to what looked to be a calf injury really hurt the Sabres. They could of used his leadership in the second half cos Sturts offence was just terrible...all perimeter, no patience, bad shot attempts. having said that Woodville D was pretty good in the second half.

Birmmingham, Puddifoot were active all night. Wilson was a little quiet, even spending some time on the bench which is rare for him. Sturt went to a 1-3-1 in the second half which had little effect. Too many mis matches in the post, and guys like puddifoot, Birmingham and fuller were getting in the guts over and over again...a lot of open foul line jumpers.

Pretty boring game really, Woodville got the result they needed tho and have the home court for next week. Should be a ripper!

For those of us 500km away, can someone tape it and post it somewhere on the net? I know it would be 500mB or so, but if my daughter can find Wiggles on the internet with files >700mB, surely someone can do this for the grand final!

Even though Finkmeyer didnt have the game he did the week before he should have been out there more in the third and fourth quarters. the game had a strong insdie presence for the majority of it and with out finkmeyer out there sturt were all perimeter and with some poor shot selection, looked like to me coach castle was more worried about dancing on the side lines than actually coaching down the stretch, maybe if he could have realised the no inside presance and finkmeyer having sores on his butt the result might have been different!

he had too many fouls, 3 or something in the first quater alone, thats why he didnt play much.

i thought Sturt really struggled to gel as a team. Its unfair to say Oscar shot poorly, he was getting the ball after no-one else could find an open shot and the shot-clock was almost over. He seemed to be the last thought in Sturt's offence.

Woodville played really well tho, lots of contributors.

Grand Final should be cracker, but if its close, you'd have to tip Forestville.

if its close put your money on woodville

statistics or its that odds will tell you it is time the luck or ball falls woodvilles way

after all in a casino would you bet $100 on red red red black has to come up and bite you in the bum

in this case bet big on green

basketball is not a game of chance or luck. Its a game of skill. and woodville are quite skilled at losing close games. Forestville twice and North.

Oscar shot 8/23. Puddifoot had 30 points (no idea where from!). Potsie lost in the first with a calf injury, Vaughn had an ankle problem that kept him out of the second half I think. When Darren and Shep fouled out, there was only James-Martin to bring in.

Tom James-Martin announced his retirement -- congratulations to The Plumber on such an enduring career.

The game seemed very similar to their last match-up -- Sturt making a run, but leaving it too late. Oscar's foul trouble (5 fouls early in the third quarter) didn't help.

Too many easy points for Woodville inside. The rematch against Forestville should be a great game!

BTW, Paul Rees last night -- 23 points in 17 minutes.

Sturt shot better from outside than inside the three point line which explains the number of outside shots. Darren 6/14 threes, Oscar 3/7.

Boxscore

Seen at the game: Dunkenstein, Yogee, Bizzy, Double Clutch, Fresh Cream, Smooth Butter, EC, Willie Farley, Dusty Rychart, Jye Watson, Jason Dix and the Eagles, Stephon and BLAZER (unless I'm mistaken).

As usual I didn't see anyone except Farley and only because he sat in front of me. So, please no comments about snubbing and daggers because its not true. As much as I'm disappointed with the result, I was glad to see Rees doing so well only because I hope its an indication of what he is going to bring to the Sixers this season.

I wish I knew what all those other people looked like. I only saw Isaac and Dunkentstein as I don't know who anyone else is.

Was a good game - Who knows where Puddifoot got 30 from, didn't seem like he did that much. Birmingham played quite well with some nice assists and Big Sexy hitting 3's Sturt should have know it was over when he's hitting a shot like that.

Bad luck to Sturt - would have like to have seen them get up.

My tip is Eagles for the title now.

Bizzy...I was the one on the stats bench doing all the calling :)

Thought it was a great game, and Sturt certainly dont need to drop their heads...they battled bravely all game, just every time they got close, Woodville would find something else.

I also think the reffing was generally pretty good, a couple of softish calls either way, but thought the consistency was there.

I thought it was good game to watch, plenty of free flowing scoring all game.
Warriors looked home early in the last but again nearly replicated their disastorious last two minutes of the Eagles game.
With 20 seconds to go and the Warriors up 5, they inbounded the ball, quick turnover, Ng somehow has the ball on the 3pt line and strangely decides to pass to Tom Jim Martin who tries to bank a 3.

Paul Rees had a blinder, 15pts in 11 minutes in the first half were inspiring for the Green Train.
KB's subbing left a few scratching their heads especially the start of the last but the same applied to Rick Castle, Ng off in the first quarter? Was he scoring too much??

Oscar didn't have a great game but would have to put it down to the hustle and tenacity of Puddifoot and Fuller. Oscar's 4th and 5th foul in the space of 40 seconds(both on Fuller) in the 3rd quarter, was out of frustration and very strange for the big fella'.

The Doctor played an exceptional game and the last quarter should have seen him in a shoot-out but Sturt struggled with Elders, Puddifoot and Fullers inside work exhausting the Sturt players.

Warriors dominated the paint and didn't allow many Sturt O boards.
Puddifoot had a superb game and picked up his 30 by going to the line 16 times(made 11).

There were probably 250 at the game but they were very quiet, probably 70% Sturt I would assume.
The most noise was from the P.A which buzzed loudly, maybe the 'white noise' put people to sleep.

The Warriors must work on closing out a game or the Eagles could pinch another one.

The G.F should be a ball-tearer.

Birmingham led Woodville in rebounding at the end of the 1st half! Get that man into a PF/C position!

Great game, i thought mark fuller was outstanding and pudifoot was awesome aswell for the warriors. Cam didnt have his usual magnificant game but still solid and controlled the warriors on the floor.

Matt elder and ressy was excellent inside the paint (and reesy outside the paint) thought they played exceptional D espicially elder when he was on forman various times during the night.

Excuse my ignorance but what happened to Paul Bauer, he started and only played 7 minutes,he was in his track suit

Paul Bauer did his calf i think, same thing that kept him out previously. And cam was sick as i do beleive he had the flu thats why he didnt play his usual 48 minutes.

Just like to say that the scores in the paper - that read Bauer with 10 points - was actually Mark Bauer not Paul Bauer! Go you good thing!:-)
