East Coast Challange

Just wondering if anyone has been watching the ECC.

Vic and SA seem to be going well.

Just wondering if anyone ever rests? Ever?

Like, it's January. 18s is in April. 16s is in June/July.

How about we have 3 months off from organised basketball and enjoy some down time?

Not a bad guess but not 100% - some of these kids are highly promoted by their parents and pseudo scouts that make mix tapes that feed off them - there are some that are not even in this age group.

It would be fun to have a topic about which kid has way too much parent driven social media but can't because they may be under 18yo.

The notorious laughing stock of basketball is in the u20s women's team now...the one chasing her is in the u16s Vic Metro program.

So with VICs getting to put two womens and two mens teams in the U/20 Nationals what is this telling us about these championships.

Obviously other teams have pulled out(e.g.NZ).

So how do Vics get to put two teams in and how embarrassing would it be if they play each other in the Grand Final.

You though they may have given the 2nd teams to QLD considering they are hosting the event but then also it shows that the VICs are the strongest and also the talent has really dropped off when it gets to level with definitely the best Kids not interested in playing.

Stupid having 2 teams and they don't even seperate them by metro and country.

Under 20's the Metro and Country combined so they will not separate in that regard.

I find your post confusing & ill informed to say the least & not backed up by FACTS.

Maybe you should tell us what this means about these Championships?

I am not sure if you or other posters know the full issue? I believe TAS & NZ & possibly NT will not be represented. This is particularly disappointing as TAS nearly won it last year. Heads should roll somewhere for this to have been allowed to happen.

I'm not sure how Vic have entered two teams. Were they asked, did they lobby for it, or did other state's want them to enter two teams?

If you know this age group, then you'd know the Vic Men's & Women's have been strong in the top age in this age group since U16's, so their depth should be good. I think both Men & Women won the U16 & U18, 2 & 4 years ago. 5 of the Vic Men won the U20's last year, 4 as starters. Three of them won the U18's as bottom age 3 years ago, two as starters.

If this was to happen next year, or the year after, I'd expect NSW to enter or be asked to enter two teams in the Men's.

Not so sure you are accurate with your statement about the talent dropping off and kids not being interested.

The Vics will have
4 COE participants, 5 U17 Australia Representatives,
3 U19 Australia Representatives

QLD will have
2 or 3 COE participants, 2 or 3 U17 Australian Representatives & 1 U19 Australia Representative.

NSW - have never really been strong in this top age group and two of their bottom agers are in the US, one in College & the other in HS.

WA will have one COE participant.

I think if you'd said there is a drop off, particularly QLD & WA because some of their top age kids are already in US College as they start school early - then I may accept your argument argument.

But from what I know only two NSW kids from previous championships will be missing as they are already in the US.

I personally don't think the talent has dropped off. Some kids, as kids do, drop off, stagnate, plateau. Others improve, get better and go past others.

In all sports , some kids peak early because they mature early, which gives them a size, speed, strength advantage in the earlier age groups. By U20's, generally, those advantages no longer exist.
