Wildcats site
Have a look at the Perth Wildcats web site for a hint of what the Sixers could be doing with theirs: wildcats.com.au.
Their admin have a running forum in which they ask for suggestions about competitions, entertainment, music, announcers, etc with prizes for the best suggestions.
The site has had news added 4 times in the past 5 days, including Scott Fisher visiting an AFL game, something about one of their cheerleaders winning a competition, and pictures from a Wildcats weekend clinic with young kids.
There are ABL promos and statistics too.
Net result? Happy fans, and people posting on the forum about how much they want to sign up for the new memberships (a lot of seats work out to $179 for 13 games).
Is this a direct contrast with the Sixers' site? A popular forum shut down. No news posted in the last 25 days despite Martin Cattalini being selected for the Australian team to tour Europe, and then strongly rumoured to be leaving the club.
Nothing about the off-season antics of Sixers players (Holmes, Forman, Ng in the ABL; Rychart playing overseas).
Nothing about Brett Maher's surgery and attempted recovery for final Boomers selection.
Nothing about the charity event for the Hudson Maher Foundation, at which Sixers players will be in attendance.
Not even hints as to who might be signed or who the club are targeting for the remaining positions.
The online ticket renewal component has been pushed back to the 27th (it was meant to launch today), but that's a major project and I can understand delays there.
One can only hope that this is a temporary state and behind the scenes a team is working to release a whirlwind of news to information starved fans. But when a news update to a web site can take less than 5 minutes, I can see absolutely no reason why fans are not receiving any content.
