Tough call - DP role with Taipans including CQU education or playing with one of the biggest basketball colleges in America.

Great opportunity - great school, great basketball program with an outstanding coach. The only problem Jack may face is playing time. Coach K likes one-and-done players so Jack runs a risk of sitting on the bench, especially next year when Duke bring several top notch recruits playing 3-4 positions. Jack should reinvent himself, start playing 1-2 positions, with his height and athletic ability he would definitely play more.

In any case, great achievement for Jack and his family, well done.

They only have him ranked as a 3* player..... Huge offer he needs to decide does he go for playing time first year or future years, always hard for any good player, do they take the chance they will ride the pine that freshman year but play at a much higher level than if they go into a weaker team weaker conference and play more minute.

Duke play a really great style of men's basketball, and will certainly be a great fit for an athletic guy like Jack White.

I'm not sure he'll get many minutes behind Tatum.

"Coach K likes one-and-done players" Grayson Allen, Plumlee? Go for it Jack. If it doesn't work out can easily transfer to another school that would love an ex duke player on there team!

Another one of our country Vic kids making an impact out there in the basketball world, NCAA and who knows afterwards.

Good luck Jack, make your choice for you and enjoy the ride. Look forward to watching all our kids coming through, some talent out there I must admit.

I wouldn't be concerned at all about court time, people critical of Isaac for going to Kentucky, seriously guys look outside the bubble and you will find there is a whole lot more to it than just 'court time'...

Apparently jack is 6'7 225 now... Nice size for a sf..
At u17 he was listed at 6'5 and around 190.

2016/2017 roster?
6'2 Thornton/6'4 Jackson//6'5 pagliuca
6'5 Kennard/6'5 jones/6'5 Besser
6'9 Tatum/6'8 Robinson/6'7 white
6'9 Giles/6'9 obi/6'8 delaurier
6'10 Jeter/7'0 vrankovic

1 to be cut maybe?

Ingram-nba

Plumlee-?
Jefferson-?

Hilarious when a big mouth coach tweeted 'not one kid here is D1' when seeing jacks team play nz few years ago for u17 qualifiers.
Great times for the game both here and nz with this generation pumping out quality players

^correct annon, many kids in this generation have been recruited by major and mid-major programs.

A look at the stat sheet of the Devils for this and past seasons shows that Coach K runs very short rotation - 8 players at the most. It is not fun for someone who wants to become a basketball pro to sit on the bench for a season or even longer since there is plenty of athletic kids in class 2017 that would compete for the same position. Transferring is not a wise option since a transferee has to red shirt for a year.

On the other hand Duke is a really good school and with his academics he would excel over there.

It's duke you gotta take that!! Coach K often has guys who play little as freshman but develops them into the rotation as sophomores/juniors players like Redick, Allen, Dunleavey, Schyher, Wojo, Paulus that's just to name a few!

Can't remember a Taipan who ended up in the league after starting as a DP so at worst the exposure to high level play over 4 years and the coaching will make him better like no disrespect to Ferne but he ain't tying coach K shoe laces!

Jack was never going to stay around, he was always going to go to college somewhere. Looking forward to watching Duke games with less hate...

Taipan DPs that went on to play in the NBL: Jawai, Shaun Bruce, Sobey, Dean Brebner, Kerry Williams, Worthington, Grabau, Zac Carter - that's just off the top of my head. There has been a few.

The only decision for White is really whether he should go to Duke and get quality coaching but limited time initially or to a college that isn't quite at the same level and get more time but potentially less quality coaching.

Comparing the Cairns scenario and the Duke scenario is really pointless.
Duke will be fully funded with accom, food, travel, equip, study etc all paid for. Which includes all the travelling that they do throughout the season. Global media coverage and a very impressive 1-4 years to put on his basketball resume.

Cairns might have a good program in comparison to other NBL clubs but it is not on the level offered by Duke. As a DP his payments would be minimal and unless there is something else offered he would need to fund a majority of living expenses.

Cairns might have a good track record of producing NBL players but White would already be able to pick which team he wants to play for. Duke would have any bball resource that he needs to develop his game and all of the associated treatment.

On top of that, he would get a degree to use after his career

I'm glad people took my CNS post seriously as it shows it has a lot of credibility but my tongue was firmly in cheek when I made it.

Good point podge "Taipan DPs that went on to play in the NBL: Jawai, Shaun Bruce, Sobey, Dean Brebner, Kerry Williams, Worthington, Grabau, Zac Carter - that's just off the top of my head. There has been a few."

Has any other current NBL coach got a record with DPs that even comes close to that?
