36ers talking to a couple of Perth players

I heard on the radio last night that Joey was in talks with a couple of players from Perth.

I am assuming one would be Knight?

Does anyone know if this rumour is true and if so any more about it?

You're worried about Hire when it could be Redhage replacing Petrie. Here is the Perth free agent list. Of that list, I'd want Knight and Prather.

I liked Kenny, but think we're locked in on Sobey/Teys, right? I think Redhage is getting on too much. Not sure Beal would work with Randle. Hire isn't hopeless, but didn't think he had a great season? Not keen on Jawai.

Shawn Redhage
Nate Jawai
Jarrod Kenny
Jermaine Beal
Matty Knight
Greg Hire
Casey Prather

I've been a 6ers fan my whole life. If we take Redhage I will burn the place to the ground...

Perth fan - wouldn't be overly phased if Hire is poached. I think he will be one of the casualties in the league with the 3 imports and marquee rules. He's a specialist, I think those role players might be bumped to 10-11th man now, unfortunately.

Adelaide wont take Redhage.. Thats like signing Julius Hodge to a contract. You just wouldnt do it! But i agree with Dave, burn the place down! Never will i support anything Redhage is apart of. #DIRTYFLOPPER

ISn't Wilson Security under the umbrella of Wilson that is on the list for paying zero Tax with the Panama dodge. Aren't they under the umbrella of the issues with detention centres ? If they are the same umbrella then it is all adding up to me walking even more so if some of the dirtiest players are taken on and the obsession with guards that are exploited defensively and lack of club communication with the fans. If Mitch was not there it would be almost none existent.

Do they even have to be out of contract? For example, did Petrie appear on the FA list?

Petrie I think had a players option and decided to leave.

The 36ers did try to get Redhage a few years ago. Made sense then - winning type. Not sure he's still got it now. Probably not worth antagonising fans with!

Perth might be interested in retaining Jawai to pair him up with the likely signing of Motum and the odd man out is Knight. Given his injuries and banged up body then it makes sense.

Or Adelaide might be interested in Jawai? remember they almost signed him last season.

Greg Hire has been known to attempt field goals at the ends of games when the result is beyond doubt and the shot clock is out of the equation.
That apparently goes against everything Joey stands for, so you can bet he won't be recruiting Hire ;)

Aren't the two Knight & Beal? I remember someone on here saying those two would be 36ers players next season.

With the demise of the Crocs Kay and Steindl would be useful in Adelaide.

Mystro, Petrie did have a player option but what I am getting at is...did he appear on the FA list with that option or was he considered contracted and thus not listed?

There could be Perth players in the same situation (if you don't appear on the FA list due to having an option)?

Petrie did appear on the FA list despite signing a 3 year contract with the 36ers last year.

I don't think I'd go for Steindl - sometimes seems like a bit of a headless chicken. Nick Kay for sure though - he seemed promising.

Isaac, Steindl has length, can stretch the D (which we desperately need) and I think would flourish in Joeys run n gun system whilst playing off Randle - just my opinion though.

I think that having lost Gibson and Petrie, they need to offset the brawn of Creek (and potentially Walker). I get the impression that if Steindl was the right guy, Fearne wouldn't have let him (or Young, for that matter) go - that's why I'm slightly suspicious of both of those two.

Isaac, I see your point but how many players could we put in that same category, my guess is a lot. Some would fit the scenario you suggest while others would thrive elsewhere.

Some players just thrive in different environments and systems. As for some examples - wasn't Redhage initially cut from NZ, Rychart originally cut from North Melbourne, Garlepp bounced around a bit until he landed in Sydney and your Bro, Oscar has played his best ball in the Gong.

Can go either way I reckon but I think Steindl has potential and has a skill set the 36ers need - worth a risk I think.

Some imports take time to get established. People complained about Beal, Prather and Jett recently - all turned out OK. Oscar was played out of position in NZ IMO. Did better as soon as he was PF and beside a defensively oriented C and SF.

The winning teams play smart, team basketball more than the others.

I also don't see how Adelaide would be desperate for Steindl when there's already Teys, Creek, possibly Walker, and then imports spots to use.

Most likely Jawai at Melbourne. Beal and Knight at Perth.

The 36ers could certainly use Steindl's 3pt shooting and the fact he's an outside threat though.

I wouldn't be unhappy the 36ers signing Steindl at all assuming the price tag wasn't anything outlandish.

I'd be chasing Steindl for sure, not many imports who can provide what he does, and he certainly fills a hole for Adelaide.

Petrie was clearly listed as "Free Agent - Option not taken."
As was Redhage, which surprised me, as I thought he was out of contract.
I can only assume that at this point he is adopting a wait & see approach, before deciding whether or not to retire.
Maybe the Cats don't get everyone they want and opt to keep him on as the 11th man, or maybe some other team sees some value in him.
Previously I thought his loyalty discount made him exceptional value, but with the PPR system abolished, its difficult to justify a place for him.

If it were redhage joining, they can shove their membership where the sun dont shine.
i dont get pleasure watching him and nor would i get pleasure even if he won every game for us.
years back the guy elbowed a seabl player only to get off, yet the guy who got hit, got several weeks despite both being thrown out.
sorry, but the guy is a drawcard for the wrong reasons.
