NBL preseason late report: Razorbacks v Pirates

The West Sydney Razorbacks have rebounded after their loss to Brisbane on Saturday to blitz the Hunter Pirates 138-95 in a pre-season match at Coffs Harbour.

Coming off an 18-point loss to the Brisbane Bullets the day before, the Razorbacks were never headed with James Harvey reeling off 24 points including five baskets from long range.

Imports Nick Horvath (22 points) and Jermaine Blackburn (14 points) also played key roles, while big man Miles Pearce added 24 points and 15 rebounds.

Livewire guard Mike Helms did his best to keep Hunter competitive grabbing 19 points, while Russell Hinder and Odell Bradley shot 25 and 20 respectively.

Aaron Trahair was restricted to just seven points against his former club.

The Pirates opened the scoring through ex-Razorback Hinder before the Pigs went on a 25-10 blitz.

Harvey and Scott McGregor did most of the early damage, while Clint Reed bagged 10 points late in the quarter for a 41-23 lead at the first break.

The margin remained the same for the majority of the second period with foul shots dominating scoring.

Helms did most of the work for the Newcastle-based side including an athletic coast to coast play, while Razorbacks big man Axel Dench joined in the long range action with a three-point bomb.

A late flurry of baskets from Damir Tomlijanovic gave the Razorbacks an 85-50 break at half-time.

Matters got worse for the Pirates in the third term as West Sydney extended their lead at the last break to 115-69.

Hinder and Bradley tried hard to manufacture a Hunter comeback, but the match was all over well before the final buzzer.

The Pirates will now continue with preparations for their NBL season debut against the Sydney Kings on September 14, while West Sydney is scheduled to take on Wagner College in Sydney on Wednesday.
