Trying to place an order with a prostitute isn't exactly something worth talking about.

Bah, so he likes the nightlife.... Looks the goods. If they can land a bruiser to play alongside and backup Nate they'll have a great squad.

So he likes the nightlife. If true he wouldn't be a player I would want to hire based on their short term future in the NBL.
I would want a bruiser to get the job done on the court and be squeaky clean off court.

Some people on this site are going to go nuts, he played with Diamon Simpson in Israel last year! Maybe Simpson is the Taipans next signing?

Not a natural Dunk Shooter so don't know if he'll appeal to the casuals.

What position will he play for Cairns? Is he the new torey Craig?

Trice is an amazing signing so maybe there wasn't much bank left?

Hahaha this guy is the worst import signing and weakest we have seen in years, would not pay this guy 60,000. Cairns probably paying him that!!

I am laughing at you people who think Simpson is being signed, do you not realize Cairns have no money? Literally none or this import would have been better.

If he's the signing, it looks like Fearne is going to look for a lot of scoring from Trice and Jawai. It would be great to see Gliddon increase his scoring, but he already carries a big load in keeping down the big scorers on other teams, like Goulding, Wesley, etc. Plenty of teams have added wing scorers for him to contend with, too, like Johnson in Perth, and Bryson in Sydney.

I really hope the bench can provide some offensive punch!

Cairns aren't expecting to win a ring this season. Best they can hope for is to be competitive and weather the storm.
At some point, they are supposed to get cash back from the NBL from the teams that exceed the soft cap. They just have to hope that LK wins a couple of rings with MU and gets bored, and that Sydney's new owners get tired of pumping in money, so things settle down a bit.

Besides this guy might surprise. End of the day Cairns can't afford to pay big bucks for guys that we KNOW will be stars, they have to take a gamble on Fearne spotting undiscovered talent. Maybe it pays off.

Taipans sign Fuquan Edwin
Media release: Tuesday 16 August 2016

The CQUniversity Cairns Taipans today confirmed the signing of sharpshooter and defensive specialist forward Fuquan Edwin to its second import position.

Edwin starred for Seton Hall University from 2010 to 2014, finishing his senior year as the Big East Defensive Player of the Year with 2.7 steals per game.

The 198-centimetre forward played 127 games for Seton Hall, averaging 12.9 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 36.4 per cent from long range.

Edwin spent his rookie season with the NBA D-League's Sioux Falls Skyforce, posting 13.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game and earning NBA D-League All-Defensive First Team honours.

He arrives in Cairns after professional stints in Venezuela and Israel.

Taipans head coach Aaron Fearne said Edwin’s skillset would add scoring punch in a system likely to generate plenty of looks from outside.

"Obviously with Nate (Jawai) being the focal point for us in the paint we need guys around him who can make plays from the perimeter," Fearne said.

“Fuquan will definitely have his foot on the pedal from an offensive point of view. He’s aggressive as a scorer, which we will need.

“He has a great ability to shoot the ball, and he’ll bring an aggressive mindset to the group.”

Edwin is the Taipans’ second import signing in as many weeks, following the signing of former Michigan State star Travis Trice.

As with Trice, Fearne had first pursued Edwin after his play at last year’s NBA Summer League.

“I was really impressed with him at last year’s NBA Summer League so I made some inquiries, but he ended up playing in Israel in a very good league,” Fearne said.

“Before that he played in an outstanding conference in the Big East, and as a pro he’s played really well.”

“To date with Travis and Fuquan we’ve added two really good pieces, and I’m looking to getting them integrated into our system,” he said.

Edwin is scheduled to join Taipans camp next week.
