Should gleeson be on the block?

This move to bring in Ingram for Johnson is so outrageous even average fans can clearly point out it's a bad move. I am extremely confident the cats are worse off for it. Should gleeson be on the hot seat for this?

And why not give Johnson more time. We are 2-1 and no one was going to be signing Ingram any time soon. He's been in the D league for the last ten years for goodness sake. This is a baffling move and when it doesn't pay off there needs to be a price to pay. Gleason's main asset since he's come here has been his recruiting. Ennis, beal, prather, Jervis, Kenny have been on the mark. Johnson looked good and Brandt so far as well but with this change gleeson has shown he's lost the plot.

I want answers!!!

Not to mention Johnson has done the full pre season and built chemistry with the team. You don't pull this move unless the guy who you are replacing is complete rubbish (which Johnson isn't) or the replacement is an absolute must have stud who you are willing to rock the boat for. And you most definitely don't do it to downgrade in talent.

Baffling. Who signs off on this s*$t

So by your own reckoning, Gleeson has chosen 6 good recruits and one not so good....6 for 1 and his has lost the plot?

This recruitment has taken place due to the connection to ex-cats coach Connor Henry.

Henry linked this guy to the cats apparently.

Maybe there is more we don't know.

On paper it looks very odd. Now we must wait and watch and see if it works or blows up in their face.

As a coach, it's a good problem to have a lot of talent, with the challenge being how you mould it. That's what separates good coaches.

Gleeson said that Johnson was duplicating a lot of what Prather brought to the table. Prather is a fantastic player - who wouldn't like to have two of him? It's not like we're talking about a plodding centre who you can't have two of. We're talking about two athletic wings.

We've taken the easy way out by downgrading talent, instead of taking the challenge of trying to get the best out of better talent. Isn't that what good coaches should do?

I agree Johnson would be great to step in to Prathers role when he leaves next year.

However, let's not forget when we "grew and developed" Deandre Daniels. I understand the team making a difficult decision to avoid that situation. However I'm not sure it was the right one.

At least i will always have a JJ jersey to remember that game...

How can you blame gleeson for Marvin's bad decisions. Gleeson was in Rio when Marvin and the rest of the coaching staff were scouting players in the summer league.

HoggyTimerulez makes a fair point. While we would have all liked to see Hoggy Time himself slot into Johnson's roster spot, you can't always get what you want in life.

Let's give Ingram a chance to actually get on the court and see how the team looks with him in it. Basketball can certainly be a sport where a well-balanced team beats a team of greater but ill-fitting talent. Ingram is strong at the specific skill Perth wanted, 3 point shooting.

Gleeson is the most recent championship winning coach. It would be ridiculous to punt him so impulsively.

How can you even judge this decision without seeing him play a single game in a Cats uniform.

This season is Gleeson's toughest challenge yet.

They are defending champions, but on pure talent they havent improved (Brandt/McKay/Ingram in for Jawai/Jervis/Beal), whereas most of the other teams have improved their rosters, and Brisbane is an upgrade on Townsville.

On a pure skill set basis, the Cats had 3 areas where they are lacking offensively- Outside shooting, post play and inside scoring, and playmaking. 3 pretty significant areas. Knight and Ingram will help with two of them, but the third is still a major, major issue IMO. So we'll see how it plays out and what Gleeson can do.

Of course we shouldn't sack gleeson right now, he is just coming off a championship. But if this doesn't work out , and it most likely won't, then it's a big black mark against his name for wasting a championship calibre core with a very silly, short sighted move.

The only way this works is if prather turns into a Jerome randle type player and creates everything for this team. A lot of eggs to put in one basket but he is a pretty good player. But I have him chalked up as a do it all type player rather than an offensive ball hog type.

Also let's leave the import chopping and changing mid season to the mug franchises of this world like the old Sydney kings. This is not Perth wildcats basketball, as he himself would say

If you look at the big picture here in terms of roster composition, the Cats need their 3 imports to be making a big impact, otherwise they won't win the championship. Their Aussies aren't that great.

Johnson is definitely athletic and has skills, he just did not evolve into the 3 point shoot and penetrate style of player the cats needed. He was just like Prather when he started his first season...but we already have a Prather

At the Cairns game I had him on the plane at 3qtr time. He had an exceptional 6mins but taking into account his pre-season and previous games he was not fitting into the style and a number of his drives to the basket were just embarrassing.

He struggled to make his own space to get his 3pt shot working for the majority of his NBL court time.

Wildcats have the benefit of money. When something doesn't work out buy your way out!!

Plus a 3pt shooter doesn't have to take too much time to settle into a team there is the 3pt line fire away.

Gleeson is not the worlds greatest coach.....but gets the wins. Joey is known as a great technical coach and what does he get. Losses......and Adelaide!!

Playoff Prather was a very different player to start of season Prather. I wonder why JJ was not given the same opportunity to adjust his game.

they dont have to give them time to settle. They have the resources to change them when they feel they need to. Im sorry I didnt realise that the Wildcats hiring and firing was a community based issue. Lol give them a break ffs

The problem is only that we never know the full story. They cut star players, mumble something about fit, and we're left pondering.

Look at it this way:

Beal did SOMETHING to get himself cut. End of Story.
Cats went and hired a talented replacement, no problems with their recruitment.

JJ did SOMETHING to get himself cut. End of Story.
Cats found the best player they could in the available time. Good move.

Be interesting to see if they plan to keep him for the season, or if they are already scouting a more permanent replacement.

Really? Wagstaff has probably been one of the best/most consistent 6th men in the league. Knight is one of the best defensive big men in the league, and damian martin..do I really need to explain.

In comparison to other Aussies in the league, I think our Aussies aren't too bad.

We need one allstar import (could argue this is Prather) and one decent second Import.

"Joey is known as a great technical coach and what does he get."

Joey is known as WHAT? (With apologies to Mock.)

Joey can't coach worth a damn. He will be exposed big-time this year, and is one of two coaches (the other being Demopoulos, if MU don't do well) with his head on the block. Adelaide needs big things of Ferguson, who has languished on the bench until now, and may get a shot only because Creek is out. If Joey can't stop crying for long enough to coach his ream, he's gone.

Gleeson is safe for this year, at least, even if bringing Ingram for Johnson is as bone-headed as I think it looks.

Ah, no.
Beal had some bad habits.

Point is, we'll never hear all the details, so its not worth fussing over.
With JJ, it could be anything, or maybe he just didn't like Perth. Point is he's gone, time to move on.
