Erm unless they can nab a major sponsor like Nyrstar, would they be able to stay financially viable in NBL even if Bartlett could realize his plans?

Filling up with DEC with 3000 fans won't cut it for a crowd in NBL.

Surely there would be a National Brand based in Hobart that could drop $1M in naming rights for a national comp.

Positive move for Hobart. May not get back into the NBL but giving themselves a realistic timeframe. Playing at the DEC is a big part of showing the club is professional and serious about it.

3000 fans is not a problem because if you charge per head that makes 6000 in Tas.

A Tassie team playing out of the DEC and a team in Canberra at the AIS Arena (or a 2nd NZ team) should be the priority (IMO) before any second team in a city.

But, as others have said any new team should be financially viable and be able to regularly draw a crowd of at least 4-5k.

IIRC, the Derwent Entertainment Centre had a pretty decent set up for basketball and held about 5,400. I'm kinda surprised the Boomers don't play more games there to promote the game.

I also remember a certain ex-36ers coach slapping a fan there during a game.....

Imagine 3000 people to a Seabl game. Next step NBL and then no Seabl team.

Good luck to them, would be great to have a team in Tassie if they can get the numbers to games.
