Adelaide 36ers name?

Can someone explain to me why the 36ers are called the 36ers? What is a 36er? Thanks in advance for answering my rookie question :P

I thought a 36er was a kind of feral koala that dropped from a tree and tore you to pieces with its 36 claws?

Champagne comedy there, hilarious, 69ers implies a sex act. Poster probably drew penises in his dictionary as well.

I think you used the wrong tense. Present tense.

Yes. 1836 the start of the first colony of free settlers in Australia.

There used to be a SEABL team named after the Buffalo, a ship used by the settlers to move to SA. It was/is a restaurant.

The SEBL team won the SEABL title 1 year from memory, but they only existed for a few years.
