Newley out indefinitely with hamstring injury

SYDNEY'S finals aspirations have copped a hit with star swingman Brad Newley ruled out indefinitely with a hamstring injury.

Newley tweaked his hamstring during the Kings’ hard-fought loss to Perth on Saturday and it’s unknown when he’ll return.

The experienced sharpshooter requires scans on his injured hamstring and won’t travel to New Zealand on Friday to take on the Breakers.

Newley is a significant out for the Kings, but they at least have some coverage at SF. Regardless, it could really jeopardise their chances of making the four given Perth's seeming resurgence.

Yeah that sucks. It was going to be a struggle with a healthy Newley.

"experienced sharpshooter" - needs an edit.

Perhaps "experienced penetrator"

Sydney weren't going to make it anyway. This pretty much means that both United and Hawks make it.

Depends what "Indefinitely" means in this context. If it just means "we don't know" there may be hope. If it means "season ending" then Sydney are sunk.
He and Lisch have carried that team, and lately Lisch looks Knackered.

Kings have heaps of forwards depth so Newley can be covered. Josh Powell had his best game in Newley's absence.

Powell only played well because his daughter was there watching. Also no Matt, no one can cover what Newley does for the Kings, not even Lisch can. He's unique, and does stuff that no one else on that roster can do.

No one can cover Newley. Kings are gone.

Newley is their best player this season. A big blow.

United without Goulding is a possibility too. So perhaps take United out of the equation too. Gaze will have an out when they don't make the finals now :(

Newley should of been leading there best player awards, a massive loss. Him and Lisch there two best defenders, it could get ugly.

Watch him play Mcdonald - White for 30 mins a game!! Gaze loves him & i'm curious to see how good he is...

If White can defend better than Cadee, start the kid & let Cadee play the back end of quarters Rotnei Clarke style.

McDowell-White looked pretty good vs Perth. Turnover aside, knocked down I think two 3s and had one pretty sweet move to the basket. Didn't look out of his depth on D, either

I've watched nearly every game This season, and all kings games, Craig Moller should get the go, he's very athletic, 6ft 9inches tall and a good defender, rebounder. ( second in seabl last season on 9.8 per game ). Has done very well with limited opportunities.

Moller and Hill both deserve more minutes than they are getting.

Kings could do with energy, athleticism & aggression. I'm not sure if there are stats available per minute, but the young dreadlocked one certainly contests every board within reach. Seems to have a similar build to Whittington, but is an Aussie
: )

Probably worth giving Powell at shot at starting ahead of Maric too.

I think Gaze doesn't really know how to use the dreadlocked one. His offense has Moller at the perimeter too much. Everybody knows his jumper is real shaky so his marker tends to step back and play the passing lane when he ends up at the perimeter. Should only play him with another forward and center that can shoot from range, that would be Whittington and Powell.

Yeah - I'd like to see him on with those two guys. That's a very athletic 3 4 5 punch!
