Senior Country Champs

Such a shame the dismal numbers at Senior Country Champs this year. It's been declining now for about 2-3 years. Why?

Refs are scarce because they prefer to go to other tournaments vs refing locally.

What's going on? Years ago there was only standing room to watch a game - now you can't even fill court 1!

So sad.

Spot on! I was there today and it felt like no one was there! Then I looked at the program and the women's comp had to combine both A and B grade due to lack of team nominations!
Add to that the very poor standard of play and you got a sub standard carnival.
If that's the best SA Country can organise as its 'Blue Ribbon' tournament then there are some very worrying times ahead for country basketball!
Maybe some tough questions need to be asked of the staff and council as to why this is happening!

You guys are still doing well to have a Senior Champs tournament. Vic Country canned theirs years ago (guessing 10) due to a range of factors. Lack of importance due to so many other comps no doubt was one of them.

I'm talking tough questions need to be asked by the SAC affiliated associations who as part of the affiliation money they pay to SAC each year should be told as to the direction SAC are going in moving forward, as what was organised over the weekend wasn't very good.

Country Vic dont have a carnival because they have a country league in seniors -CIVBL. Country teams also compete in the SEABL and the Big V. SAC dont have any competitions even close to this so its a real shame that its in the state its in.

BMF, I think you are spot on with your comment about dictatorship!
Associations are probably afraid of speaking up and calling out SAC and particlaur staff members about the direction SAC are heading in!
If they speak up , that Association will just get black listed for future development visits by the DO's which in turn hurts the development of kids in that area.
But that's how a dictatorship works, one person makes and enforces all the rules and everyone has to just go along and follow, even if they don't agree!
It's a shame SAC is currently doing business this way!

If people watch today tonight at 6.30 Friday night we will see the kind of people who are running the show at SAC! And then realise why the overall program is what it is at the moment!
Absolutely disgraceful leadership! Acting like that when you are meant to be responsible for the care of kids while on a overseas tour!!
Now will the council finally act!

Not sure how you can blame SAC management for the decline in numbers. It is up to the Associations to organise and nominate the teams. I believe the senior numbers have something to do with the general decline in country areas because of employment and loss of young members to the metro area for uni etc. If you look at the nominations for the Junior Country Championship they have been at record levels over the last two years. Something must be working if that is the case.

If you're running the show you should show a presence during the tournament. Where's the promotion - oooopps that was on Today Tonight. That stuff has been happening for a while now - parents and "official" of SAC misbehaving and drunkenness is not the only thing that's going on apparently. Such a shame.

Has anyone seen the fixtures for the 2021 Senior Country Champs...How unrealistic your making A Grade men play games 2 hours apart - the fixtures are obviously putting some teams under pressure and giving other teams longer rests between game. This opens the door for potential injury to players without sufficient rest between games.

Then no rest after a semi final to the Grand Final and not even on Court 1.

Someone is seriously not doing their J.O.B.
