Rob Bevo is the new Goorjian

His team always makes the Top 4. When I look at his roster, I'd say it's in the lower half as far as talent. But he is the master coach.

Easy, the guy has only ever won one title to Goorjian's six.

Goorjian only won two titles in his first 13 seasons or thereabouts, losing four GF series, so maybe the comparison is quite apt.

Think about the cap Gorj had compared to the rest...He should have won more!!

Bevo is right up there.

I would say that Bevo underachieved with the Wildcats,
and spectacularly underachieved with the squad he had last season.

Bevo has been a standout coach, I don't think he's ever underachieved with one of his squads, which is very impressive.

Last year he took a team coming out of administration and with no players signed, secured three standout signatures through brilliant recruiting and then got the best out of guys like Weeks, White, Ellis etc to complement them.

Had Lisch not got injured in G1 of the SFs who knows what happens. For them to take Perth to three games without him was a super effort.

Agree totally with paul. Bevo is a good coach and has the ability to get the best out of his players.
May have underachieved at the cats but could have quite easily had another two championships to his name. Remembering two of their finals series they were decimated by injuries on the eve of the finals and only just fell short against NZ.

Maybe he should just pursue a career as a recruiter?

To be fair; what stopped Bevo and the Cats from winning more titles was some very good NZ sides. From memory it wasn't like those Cats teams missed playoffs etc - they came against a deep NZ team on multiple ocassions.

Damian Martin missed one of those grand finals and was at 50% in the other. Redhage's injury derailed the 2011 season.

Reaching game three of the semis is not underachieving.

Laughing at people who think last year's Hawks team underachieved by finishing 3rd with the 6th biggest budget.

Bevo is a class act on and off the court and with a tight budget the last two years he can put a team together that have made the playoffs. He also had his family still living in Perth for 1 3/4 out of the two season he has coached the Hawks only to be re united just before christmas so that shows the dedication and ability he has in coaching.Well done Bevo.

Every team has injuries. Always seems he blames the injuries.

So Al, if Randle gos down in the next game, then its 100% bad coaching by the coach ? same with cotton ?

Injuries always happen at some time, sometimes its a main player, sometimes it means teams lose, yes, yes and yes. Mostly that's not in the control of the coach, also true.

This why the english language has one word for "excuse", and another for "reason".

injuries are mostly "reasons" for lower performance, rather than coaching excuses ... except in the case of a NSW coache who decided to have their players play beach volleyball/cricket with a basketball and cause a number of injuries ... there's my 70's mindset for you :) !!!

Mike correct he was and is a gun.

Look how venomous some 'Cats fans are (your hate is pathetic Dazz) when once a person leaves their team like Bevo did. He is way better than Gleeson who is merely running on the fumes of the former's system. To not understand that is incredibly ungrateful.

"underachieved" wow facepalm. Dazz just quit please.

Bevo and Gleeson are both great coaches. Probably the two best in the league right now.

Trevor is improving and he has results. Let's face it lots of good coaches are good due to their situation. Would the great Greg popovich have the same legacy if SAS never crashed and landed Duncan? Drafted late round gold in parker and ginobli?

bevo won't be the new Gorj until he totally chokes against Adelaide in a GF series at least once, so won't get there this year, maybe next year.

I actually expect to Hawks to beat the faltering 6ers and Perth to beat Cairns. Imagine Wining the title on the Cats floor. Now that would be something.

Bevo recruited superbly last season and then recovered well this season after losing his two best. I think the Hawks have done pretty well given that there's only one strong import and not many others have had improved seasons this year. Norton and Kay have been good but you couldn't really say that any returning Hawk has had a particularly solid season.
