2017 SEABL season is about to begin

This weekend sees the start of the 2017 season for SEABL
Any early predictions on teams most likely to reach finals in men's and women's
And who's the dark horse going to be
( remember their are lots more teams in SEABL than Hobart so it would be good to expand things a bit)

Looking forward to the start of the season and seeing the CoE at Geelong this Saturday.

I am bullish on the Supercats this year, they have improved their list for sure, should be super competitive, pun intended...

Chargers draw sees them have many 2nd up games for a change. 4 in a row at home should decide their future pretty early on.
Saturday Women Vs Tornadoes and men Vs Thunder.
Chargers still have one player announcement up their sleeve.

In Chargers non news they have recruited Tom Garlepp for a month to fill the gap until Lewis Thomas arrives. great signing.
Beware the paywall.

Pioneers for me in the men. only two changes to their squad those being the imports. Alexander a significant upgrade. jones will give them a different look, super competitive.

I wouldn't say they are not relevant as they are a team within SEABL but agree, that an entire thread should not be taken over by news articles on one team, it actually puts others off from posting, because every-time something is posted its immediately followed by chargers info. Perhaps a thread specifically just for charges would be a good thing that way when/if people want to know about them they can drop in rather than be bombarded with chargers at every turn.

Hobart were very relevant in 2002 when they won the national championship.

yeah lets not forget the 2008 inaugural SEABL championship nor the 2016 infamous Grandfinal appearance. Should give it a shake this season too just quietly

Expectations are that at least the same crowd will be in attendance so 1000+. Hopefully a few devils fans will return. The Chargers are trying to be NBL ready in 3 seasons time with a strategic alignment now in place with BTAS and BA the pieces are starting to fall into place.

^^ i thought exactly this while watching the hobart vs launceston game!

kathleen sheer and lauren mansfield (even if she didnt have a big game) were obvious stand outs but could honestly throw a blanket over the rest of the players

It's your imagination.. WNBL players didn't play or haven't even trained with their teams before playing. Teams are still waiting on imports to come in. Give it two more rounds then you'll get a good picture of what's what

^ exactly right , if you look at the stats across the board most WNBL players either didn't play or had super bad shooting nights, it's called game adjustment , stepping down , if you look at previous seasons it's always the same they rarely have a good first game or two after the WNBL season ends especially those players who's teams have been in finals
Most have barely trained... SEABL needs to be put back a few weeks , lots of rounds where byes are fitted that could be utilised to stall the start of the season,
