Best makeup for 3 on 3 team

Briefly outlined in a previous post, but what should be the makeup of a good 3 on 3 squad. Great one on one guards would be a must, but would you go with exclusively offensive talent or maybe have a good defender that could maybe be a good spot up shooter. And would a good big be a good idea when you need a sure two inside or go with a versatile mid that can do with a bit of everything, guard an opposing big but also drag them out.
And for the format imo I think we should go for a young team that won't make the "proper" team. Is Exum a sure thing these days? Maker would be a good bet at this point in boomers if his minders thinks it's a good idea and Bolden would be good in this format. But would they consider it an insult if they don't make the boomers.
How do people think would the selection process will be, with BA it will probably be controversial, but will a dedicated squad be picked or leftovers from boomers?
Lot of questions but end of day it's a chance to pick up a medal, hopefully it's taken seriously.

I think in the first instance we need to stop any reference to the "proper team" or "the real game" etc. This is a completly different discipline of the sport (very similar to Beach Volleyball v Indoor Volleyball) it is now an Olympic sport and should be treated that way, very seriously!

It needs to be played, trained and coached entirely differently to 5on5 and therefore we should stop any reference to players like Exum and Co "making up the numbers" for 3x3, unless of course they wish to start playing the game on the World Tour Circuit, to show they are serious about 3x3.

The absolute best way for anybody that is serious in Australia about getting involved and having a crack at this sport of 3X3, and the best way for us to determine the best makeup for a 3x3 tea, is to jump on the play.fiba3x3.com site or app and register their profile and then join their mates into an event or competition near them, similar to the ones that CLB3X3 are running or that some of the local associations are running around Australia and simply play in some tournaments.
There are plenty and will be a lot more coming.

Perfect 3x3 women's team

PG 5'10 or taller that can crest their own shot and finish
SG 6'0 minimum that can defend and shoot he 3
SF 6'0 or taller that can defend and rebound good back to basket and good midrange game
PF 6'2 or taller that is agile and can stretch the floor from the 3 as well as good mid range and can finish

All 4 players must have a solid frame and loves to be physical offensively and defensively.

I'd go with something like

5'5 Conti-speed
5'11 Wallace-hustle
6''2 Talbot-defense
6'4 Magbegor-shot blocking

re Carley Mijović

Scoring by 1s and 2s significantly inflates the relative value of "3-pointers" and simultaneously deflates the value of close-range and midrange field goals.

Having a tall, versatile player who can switch on defense in pick n rolls and knock down 3s on the pick n pop is valuable.

The 6ft players she was up against destroyed her. Doesn't have the lateral quickness.

They aren't 3x3 players... or is this just a guide to the TYPE of players you would want out of your 3x3 specialists?

What sort of players work in the 3x3 game? What are the key differences and misconceptions?

I imagined you wouldn't want a lumbering centre, but then Schenscher competed in a 3x3 tournament recently.

What format typically works for the best teams worldwide?

So, three non-shooters?

Or would you be better off with athletic players who can also shoot? (Like Sobey at the smaller end, or agile bigs, etc?)

Mijovic is a catch and shoot player very little defence and very poor rebounder for her height. Can shoot a 3 but that is it. Should not have played

If this was 20 years ago, I would say Andrew Gaze, Leroy Loggins, Rob Rose and James Crawford would just about be perfect.

Players who can create for themselves and other and shoot at a reasonable rate and who have an athletic advantage 1-on-1.

As for nowadays, I am not sure any player in a full time professional league is going to be able to get in the necessary international travel and games played to qualify a high individual ranking, even if they are 'better' players. I would be looking at top fringe NBL players and college returnees that can't get a top level gig. Similarly, the COE should be streaming some players that direction.

Clydesdale
Clone of Clydesdale
Clydesdale's little sister

Sub: Don't need one. Clydesdale plays full game

Mijovic a "very poor rebounder for her height". 3rd in def rebounds in SEABL, I'd hate to see how many rebounds she could get if she was even average.

people shitting on mijovics inclusion? if anything she is the closest of the 4 to a versatile high level player. nothing against toddhunter as a wnbl player but a tiny defensive specialist who struggles to score is not ideal in 3 on 3. any guard needs to be money from the 2 point arc.

Allen too slow, not a ball handler, same with Ohea. Good 3 pt shooters though.

Wallace, Whitcomb, Blicavs, Talbot

Clydesdale
Whitcomb
Blicavs
Cambage

whitcomb you would never get a pass from, Cambage is WAYYYYY to slow, Blicavs definate maybe , Clydesdale, has speed but not endurance, but still a good choice.

you need players that can switch from offence to defence and back, think quick and move quick,AND can play as a team not just a solo player.

Conti way too small, Ohea and Allen too slow and too old by the next olympics for such a fast paced game

Wallace could be good, and if your looking at that age group, you would have to look at the likes of Sherf, Smith, Antoniadou, all good mobile players, versatile and play both ends, Wallace and Antoniadou both have previous 3x3 experience, this age bracket will be mid twenties next olympics.

thats what they need to consider, but reality is if BA actually start to get involved in some comps, it will soon become evident just who is cut out for this fast paced addition to basketball.

the men are the same, you dont just pick players on the fact they are considered 'standout' in a team, they actually must have a specific skills criteria suitable for 3x3
