NBL's plans for Sydney

I remember all the carry on in the 80's and 90's about how Sydney needed to be a success if the league was to be. The league focused on Sydney too much and let them get away with breachibg the cap until they ended up winning 3 titles. Unfortunately the league went South and Sydney collapsed as did the Bullets and nearly Adelaide. Hopefully lessons have been learned and the current Sydney situation doesn't play out the same way.

There were actually financial statements released from the Kings during the era. They spent like crazy.

We are at a point now where NBL isn't focused as much on Sydney as all sports have conceeded Sydney isn't that into attending pro sport.

The classic story from the Goorjian era was how many supplements were bought for the players. They were literally swimming in them and couldn't use them all up. No expense was spared.

Well unlike the Kings, your team is getting value out of the money its spending Isaac.

Marvin was a GM for the business side, he didn't even know the rules of basketball before coming on board with the Wildcats. So if the club are looking to replace JvG who has player signing/roster construction responsibiities Marvin isn't going to be a suitable replacement.

At least Carfino isn't commentating now. He never stopped ranting about how important it was for Sydney to have success if the league wanted to have stability. Used to drive me nuts.

The Goorjian era isnt in the equation the OP posted about. The 90's KIngs were never over the cap.

The 90s kings invented being over the cap. But no one cared because they still managed to find ways to lose with high budget teams. That is when the violet crumbles nickname first started.

The reason sydney crowds are crap has as much to do with them playing their games at homebush (which is in the middle of nowhere where theres nothing to do) as them losing.
