Why aren't journalists calling for Gaze's sacking?

I find it amazing that with all the conversation about Andrew Gaze Shit House coaching.. NOT 1 sports journalist, all of which have written articles on how bad the Kings are playing and have broken down whats is needed and wrong with the team, have NOT said Gaze need to be sacked!!
Not even a slight hint or mention!!

NOT: Boti, Tim Morrisey, SMH, Aussie Hoopla,
Matt McQuade, Fox Sports, Olgun Uluc, Daily
Telegragh, SEN radio..

Don't give him an excuse because he's the basketball Golden Child, judge him on his performance which thus far in IMO and many more people, warrants being SACKED!!

In any other Australian sport the journos would be
calling for the coach to be sacked by now.

Theres not enough media attention for that to happen. NBL coaches hardly get grilled even by journos that focus on basketball.

We arent one of the football codes where every little thing gets scrutinised. However its good to see the Kings finally get the blow torch put on them for once. Long overdue and I hope it leads to some kind of a shakeup for the sake of the Kings and the NBL.

If you want an example of why journos don't do this, look back to when Chris Appleby called for Lindsay Gaze's sacking in 1997.

The Tigers were woeful and he wrote a big article about it in the Herald Sun, but after that the Tigers shunned him and he moved on pretty soon afterwards.

There just isn't a big enough pool of teams or journos, so journos are very careful about stepping on toes or else their job becomes untenable.

But that was back in 1997 when the NBL was still very popular so maybe teams could dictate what got written about them? Its a bad move though as any media attention is good publicity for the league. Even if its critical.

Gaze needs a lot more heat put on him than what hes getting, but does Sydney care enough about it to get more attention on it?

Even back then the NBL didn't get a lot written about it. The popularity was slipping, it was invisible on TV and dominated by footy in the papers.

Can understand basketball journos being careful of toeing the line especially when theres only 8 teams and not enough stories to write about, but theres no reason for MSM to not get serious about talking about Gaze or the Kings issues. That comes down to whether they think its important enough to write about. I think they dont.

Yes agree 97 was when the league started to wane and teams began folding, but i thought it was still a lot bigger then than what it eventually became several years after.

ABC sport radio mentioned his terrible record so far this season last weekend.

It was bigger than what it was later, but it was still a sport with only one journo per paper covering it, as it is now. That means if you get people offside it becomes very hard to do your job.

If it becomes untenable the paper will pull you off that round, so any journo who wants to keep covering basketball for their paper needs to tread lightly.

It's a shame, but that's the reality.

I think coz they have started 1-4, but the four losses have all been on the road and it's acceptable to lose on the road early on in the season. No one deems it unacceptable to lose to Adelaide/NZ in there home backyard etc. And his one win this year was at home(pass mark). If the losses mount up at home then yes scrutiny will follow. But if Gaze gets an 70-80% winning record at home and say a 20% winning record on the road that is acceptable.. So he hasn't yet done anything wrong to not have a pass mark as losing on the road early in the season is standard procedure and acceptable..

Piss weak journalism in this country and even more so re: NBL. Luckily with online now we have forums and blogs.
