Tokoto v Prather

Who you got?

Prather is definitely the better player, I can't understand how people come to the Tokoto conclusion frankly. People just get excited about the new guy and his athleticism. Casey is probably the best player in the NBL

Casey still my MVP but Tokoto has jumped into the conversation for sure. Way too early to give him that title just yet though regardless of how hot he is right now. Prather has 2 seasons worth of runs on the board.

Prather has more impact on a game. Tokoto may be a better athlete and a very exciting player but I would take Prather 10 out of 10 times tbh.

Right now Casey is the better, more solid, established and consistent player, but I think he won't improve much from here. Tokoto still has a fair bit of upside imo and his physical skills and 2-way play could definitely see him pass Casey. Tokoto also has the better shot at the NBA imo.

Must add something that I doubt many realise.

In last season's run to the championship, it was Prather making the plays for others, not Cotton. Prather was more important than Cotton in that run, keeping everyone clicking

Spoken like someone who paid no attention to Perth last season.
When we got Cotton we were still average.
When Prather got healthy we won a title.

No doubt Perth can win the title without Prather and with JP

I agree. We lost a heck of a player, but it's looking like we got a pretty good replacement.

Prather wasn't healthy until late in the season, it was pretty evident

Tokoto is probably a better rebounder with better midrange game. Prather is a better dribbler, 3pt shooter and playmaker . Defence is probs even, maybe JP cause he is longer. Both cab make the pass and turnover the pass lol. From cats perspective, I don't think u could ask for much more as a replacement.

Remember how Tokoto wasn't even Perths first choice and only cane in because of Walkers unfortunate injury. Seems like Walker won't be back. Does anyone know if Tokoto was signed as an injury replacement or a full time player and what this means when Walker is healthy

Walker won't be fit until a week or two before the end of the season.

Hodgson was useless, Goulding back to excellent form. Creek needs to play 35 minutes plus, drimic is a show pony.

Tokoto looked better in his first few games than I recall Prather looking. But there is a reason CP was MVP of the championship winnimg team, two years running.
Tokoto is a fraction taller, seems to have a bigger wingspan, seems to be more explosive in his leap, but also seems to be better from range.
But Prather has an unmatched Eurostep.
I'd rather we still had CP, but I think JP is a worthy replacement.

I'd love a hit of whatever you're smoking if you think Tokoto is a better range shooter than Prather

If Tokoto was a better 3pt shooter he wouldn't be in be NBL

Prathers game is more suited to dominating the NBL but Tokotos extra length and athleticism means he has a better chance of NBA.

Its actually hard to see what Prathers role would be in the NBA. He's got skills but at small forward would they be enough to make up for the 2+ inches of height and wingspan he'd be giving up against most small forwards... probably not. To play 2 he'd need to get better at coming off screens and spot up shooting from range.

They're both listed at 6'6 but I reckon Prather is 6'5 1/2 and Tokoto is 6'7. Tokoto also longer and more athletic.

If you're comparing right here and right now, then as I said, there's a reason CP won b2b MVPs, and I would rather we had kept him. He is unquestionably the best SF in the NBL.
Obviously an import in their 3rd season is going to be be much more in tune with the league. Does that mean he's the better player? Well for the NBL, yes it does.

Keep in mind though that this time last year people were saying we shouldn't have cut Beal.

Tough to say. Let's see how Tokoto performs in the bigger games before we say he's better. Most of Perth's games have been blowouts so far.

Casey was pretty much our only hope last season or atleast it felt that way for far too much of the season.

This Wildcats team seems way more fun and active and more like a team with many avenues to fill it up.

I think I'm the situation where you need a go to guy then Casey but if you need a reliable 15 points whilst filling up the rest of the stats then you can't go much wrong with Tokoto, I can't imagine him being asked to score 20+ often this season.

But since I've seen them both and enjoyed them immensely, how about we see what Devondrick Walker can do... I do love a knock em down 3 point specialist

The SF spot in the NBL is crazy this season - Prather, Tokoto, Creek, Childress, Abercrombie, Conger, Newley, Buford and Carrera!

As for CP v JP, I agree with the majority on here that Prather has the runs on the board, and is having a slightly better season so far, but if Tokoto keeps developing the way he is he enters the equation.

Having said that, I want to see how in plays in NZ, Melbourne and Adelaide etc, because his game in Cairns was a mixed bag from memory.

Paul, he was atrocious in Cairns. Couldn't hit a jumper to save himself, now all of a sudden he's swishing everything.

I don't buy into Tokoto being a good shooter
