36ers vs Hawks, Jan 19

These teams have a few match-ups to come that may decide Illawarra's fate. The Breakers win over United hardly helped them.

The 36ers rolling and at home might be too much however.

Your tip?

Hawks have a 1% chance of making the playoffs.

I hope the 41 degree day affects the hawks performance as much as it did last year on January 5th in Adelaide which reached a top of about 36 and was still in the mid 30s outside when the game started inside the sweat box. The end result 36ers won by 32.

It's a heat wave in Adelaide and the Hawks are walking right into a furnace. Adelaide on a roll are like a freight train and Illawarra are a car stuck on the crossing.

Hawks had a great win against the Breakers at home last round but need to win an overwhelming majority of their final games to knock Adelaide out of the Top 4. An Adelaide win tonight could be enough to pop their balloon.

There are some interesting matchups, but the Sixers have a bit more depth off the bench to trouble the Hawks. That is where the game will be won tonight. Joey can wear down the Illawarra starting 5 with his bench. It doesn't matter if they let them get a few points up in this time when it's the Sixers bench v Hawks 5. When it's Sixers top 5 v Hawks top 5 in the 4th quarter, that's when the Sixers should win this game against tired legs.

Probably the most significant point of this match is that this could be the last time the Adelaide crowd watch Oscar on court. Let's give him the respect he deserves and clap him off.

Adelaide should get this and confirm a top 4 spot.
Top spot is still very much in reach for them so they have a lot to play for.
Agree with Jack, Oscar deserves a cheer after the game he was part of the sixers last title many many years ago.

Yeah... the Gong is pretty cool with the sea breeze and south coast location.

Adelaide is a very dry heat. How good/bad is the stadium air con these days?? Genuine question because it could make a difference with the relative depth of the 2 teams.

Good test of where the 36ers are at. Win this one and they are sitting nicely. Lose this one and there's a few questions being asked.

What happened in these two teams last match up?
Adelaide won convincingly didn't they?

Adelaide were heading for comfortable win before Illawarra fought back with a superb last quarter to win by 9.

Hawks outscored them 56-31 in the last 17 minutes at BMC to steal the win.

I felt like that Conger jam deserved more excitement from the commentators, that was a very nice adjustment in the air and then still was able to throw it down.

Illawarra keep fouling and the refs keep letting it go. Worried about a lob sided foul count?

Call all the fouls they let go and it's a 40 point lead now and the Hawks starting 5 all fouled out.

I thought Sobey stuck his hand in and Rotnei was clever in going up with the shot and then flailed to sell the call. Rotnei clearly exaggerated the contact but it was probably the right call.

The refs have been pretty bad though, missed that clear foul on Moore when Coenraad tried to dunk it, missed a backcourt violation on the 36ers, missed a clear goaltending on the Hawks Johnson, multiple wrong out of bounds calls, Townsend clearly isn't up to it. Obviously hasn’t affected the result - 6ers just too good accross the board.

I think Norton being out hurt the Hawks though tonight, they seemed to have a lack of ball handling options which resulted in multiple turnovers which fed the 36ers transition which is always gonna hurt. Having to start Kevin White obviously isn’t ideal either.

Ok. That's the Hawks missed calls list. Haven't got enough time or room to list the 36ers ones.

Udog Sobey hits Clarke's right elbow as he elevates. As usual the league's most knowledgeable crowd are clueless. The problem was that if Clarke didnt flail Townsend misses the call. Sobey didnt complain about the foul, he complained at the lateness of the call.

Huge game and real team effort with everyone having their moments.
Massive return to form from Sobey not only 23 pts but he destroyed them with his pace with ball and opened up their D to create opportunities for team mates.
Good tp see Drimic back.

That game might have signalled the end of Bevo as a coach In Wollongong. Well known that the current ownership wants to get rid of him even with a year left on his contract and if they miss the playoffs as seems likely now, that gives them an easy excuse. That team will look radically different next season, that's for sure.

36ers on a roll now.

Interior Def still a massive concern, gave up a lot of easy layups, but the offence is seriously humming right now.

Melb the only team im worried about as their strength (interior presence) matches with our weakness.

Need to keep pushing to try and get home court.

I think Bevo has two more years left on his contract. Signed a 4-year deal two years ago at the end of his first season there.

Surprised there aren't more comments for this game. Adelaide were pretty dynamic - put up a big score, impressive and noisy crowd. Drmic back and firing. Sobey in form.

Won the boards 53-37.

Hawks starters were 1/19 3P!

Wonder if Adelaide can get top spot and HCA, and actually make use of it this season.

Should the Sixers also stop trying to drop the ball off to Hodgeson when attacking the rim? His hands are rarely ready and it looks like a new born giraffe attempting to stand for the first time.

I suspect his reactions are at their best when the ball is above the rim.

I wouldn't pass the ball to Hodgson full stop. Even if he's open under the hoop just put up contested jumpers and if it misses hope he gets the rebound. He's borderline useless now.
