Wildcats vs Taipans, Feb 9

Perth need a win. Fearne teams don't cave but they're also not playing for finals position so who knows. What will Homicide tip? Will it be something like "I'VE GOT PERTH. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!"?

Actually, Perth fans, of the Wildcats young scrubs, which ones are most likely to have a solid NBL future?

Mason Bragg had a few good games last season. Haven't seen much of him this season though.

Dex has shown glimpses too although again not much this season. Trev hasn’t really given the young guys a lot of opportunities

You would expect the Cats to be licking their whiskers with this game.

Cairns are out for the season so like a wounded wildebeest hobbling across the savannah towards the waterhole must cross a path where a hungry cat is waiting.

I get the feeling that if the cards had fallen differently for the Snakes, they could have been top 4 this season. Then again, if my cards had have fallen differently I could have dated Kate Fischer. You just need to make the most of your opportunities.

I think the Cats just have a bit too much hanging on this game to let this wildebeest through to the waterhole.

Mason would do better in a chaotic system like Adelaide's, otherwise not sure he is in on NBL team once he is too old to be a development player.
Vague probably more likely to become an NBL player, eg
Vague (21yo) SBL 2017 - 18/8/3
Ellis (27yo) SBL 2017 - 17/5/3

Any of the top four can finish first, second or third

Mathematical odds against each team finishing first:

Melbourne - 1/10
NZ - 14/1
Perth - 84/1
Adelaide - 113/1

If Perth win all three of their remaining games their odds drop to 13/10 and Melbourne's rise to 1/1 (even money). NZ's odds would rise to 15/1 and Adelaide could not finish first.

No. I'm looking at this season in a vacuum. Pro sport is a what have you done for me lately? proposition and this season hasn't been good. Yes, they are a playoff team but unfortunately look to be making up the numbers only. Some of that falls on Gleeson, some on the front office for not replacing Cooke.

Just give up bagging Perth, in the finals, dropped a few games to Sydney lost by 2 to United and combined 10 to New Zealand. Win 3 of those and we are equal top. Perth can get better that's the part we want to happen.

"I'm looking at this season in a vacuum."

But you can't. He is where he is this season because he was winning titles. Thats his friggen job!

The argument seems to be "Gleeson is bad because he never bloods young players" but that is because he was busy winning titles with his core. What should he have done? Taken his foot off the past couple of seasons and not won titles, just so he could have young players coming through when his underachieving core retires? That makes no sense.

Last season the Cats won because Sixers choke, all of a sudden had home court advantage.

They were already aged by then. If he had self awareness he would have recognised it was an extra bonus title on top but that it wasn't going to happen again. The NBL off season is incredibly long, couldn't even sign a new local younger player and start the process then? Very poor.

J 40 minute ball from any of the top 4 would get it done. Perth have looked wobbly for a long time.

The result tonight is completely unacceptable for a team who has title hopes. Woeful effort infront of a huge crowd, against a team that had nothing to play for and has been known to go missing themselves offensively often. Its over for the team out west, will be great to see United smash them come finals time.

Btown agrees it was actually a foul on perth. Yet people above are calling that opinion a joke. Remove the hate lenses. It was one of the more poorly officiated games, both ways theu called what they shouldnt and little they should have

A poorly officiated game because one call was marginal . Oh please what a weak cop out

Wildcats didn't come out ready to play and it cost them.
It doesn't come down to one call but it was definitely a foul on Egwu. He jumped forward into Cotton.

Lets hope this is the scare they needed and they'll win the next two games. Highly unlikely I know, but you gotta be positive :/

Even if they win their last two games they will end in 4th most probably as all other teams have more games in hand left. Tonight was the crucial game to try to improve seeding.

Cotton had zero intention of scoring on that play, he just jumped into Egwu and flailed. He does it all the time, and it fails quite frequently. If he just attacked the bucket looking to score he'd end up on the line.

Burning the entire clock before jacking up a contested three while down one was also stupid.

None of the three imports should be back next year.

What did that clueless commentator keep saying about the double chance is up for grabs for perth in the finals and then he said finals on the line later when they were shooting. I think someone needs to tell that non basketball person that there is no double chance in the finals like footy and the top 4 is already set.

Anon without pulling an lv here, both ways there were atrocious calls as stated. the only cop out is you comprehended of "both ways" to only be referring to one call cited at that time, but not a few posts up. That is called context, immediate context to be precise.

Don't always agreed without Koberulz but clearly Cotton lost the ball, playing for the foul - just get the ball to the ring, then worry about the foul, simple.

Cottons weakness exposed this season is his driving to the basket. He can score the 3 (at times) and nice mid ranges. But he cant match a casper or sosa in driving to the basket.

IVe been saying all season the cats needed to bring an outside offensive coach to bring a few different ideas to the squad. Call in Ricky Grace perhaps to share some ideas with the guard rotation at Perth.

Sadly last night the team looked better when Cotton was on the bench.

One thing I dont mind with the Wildcats patchy play, it will enforce the need for a refresh of talent - especially australian talent.

Cant have all those veterans returning next year.

Gee, the Wildcat's little red wagon has lost a wheel. Fans going into meltdown.
I remember when the fans loved Cotton, they thought he was fine. Now it seems they think fine Cotton is a ring in.

Keeping Cooke was the wrong move.
Hoping an early playoff exit will force some major roster changes.

"The angle above the basket shows how far forward egwi was mobing into the player with the ball. Yet the easiest of calls is not made... "

So we need two additional refs, one sitting on the top of each backboard. Great idea J. We really need to clean up that mobing - it's ruining the NBL.

These Perth fans don't want to accept that their team played like utter shit, so they focus their attention on the refs

Utter shit? Did you even watch the game? It doesn't sound like it. It was a competitive game and to me the main difference was Cairns shots dropping at a higher than usual rate. The game came down to 1 shot it's not like it was a thrashing.

Foul or no foul on that play, the bigger issue for me is why would Damo who had a clear lay up after the steal, pull up and pass to Cotton allowing the defense to catch up and making something a lot harder than it should have been, and then Cotton went into " hungry hippo mode ", when he should have drawn the defense and dished off to Walker, piss poor basketball, no way with our mentality can we threaten anyone in the finals. our last two minutes were horrible, and not what a play off team should be doing this of the year.

Yep Cairns shot the lights out, wasn't too hard though with the minimal defensive pressure we put on them.

Agreed it was weird Damo pulled it out... but it makes me question his injury status.. It was almost as though he was tentative physically.

Damo can make a shot, thatd be why he pulled it out. Had an athletic guard chasing him down, father time kicked in on that play.

and on that Martin tentativeness -- he's either still not 100% or age has caught up with him or a combination of both. Cats trajectory has gone downhill since his injury.
