Premier League Round 8

Centrals vs Sturt
Sturt with a fortnight to get their mojo back after the departure of PG Nate Garth. Centrals lost 6 on the trot but more talented than their record indicates. Could be an interesting one.

Sturt by 4.

Norwood vs Eastern
The Flames went down to the Tigers in their last match but would be encouraged by how close they played them. Mavs up and about after a win and some close results. Norwoods veteran experience and depth will be too much here.

Norwood by 17.

Forestville vs Southern
4 on the go for Forestville have the teams at the top of the ladder worried for their safety. Tigers snuck past Norwood and deserve to be 7-0 but you have to wonder when will be the week they slip up. I'm tipping this week!

Forestville by 5 without DJ or 16 if he plays.

North vs Woodville
A battle of gritty defences in this one. I'm not sure Woodville have a matchup for Starling, but North will have its hands full with Osborne too. I'm guessing neither team bothers matching up much at all and both zone for the majority.

North by 12.

West vs South
Eian Davis hasn't been the same this year, with his scoring in the teens most weeks. If we see the same Eian after the break, West will have this easy. If we see 2017 Eian Davis it could be an interesting one. West continue to fly under the radar and get the job done.

West by 6.

State champs is usually the time teams get college kids back - is anyone lining up this week who hasn't previously? Which clubs will get the most players returning?

Southern Men have "snuck" past Forestville with a 26pt win, with an emphatic 24-8 last quarter. This keeps their average winning margin around 30 points as they "sneak" past opposition after opposition and now go to 8-0. Don't worry doubters, West is coming up so surely they will be their downfall like North, Norwood and Forestville before them? ;)

Seriously, I say again, who is going to stay with Tigers' big 4, including their "competent" (but not league best!) import combo of Mays and Turnage? Those two alone had a total of 54pts on 22-32 shooting, 23rbds, 4 steals and 5 blocks.

Johns, Brine, Mays and Turnage are all pro-level players who train and practice each day and as a result and are fitter, stronger, more athletic and can play 35-40mins at a level that other guys can't. I've seen them play 3 times and when opposition are blowing late in the third and through the fourth, and these guys are powering on and taking advantage of their fatigue with their superior fitness and strength.

If only Scumthern fans weren't an embarrassment to their team, I’d almost have enjoyed watching them pump us.

Another lucky win for the tigers.
They are pretenders.

Haha, not a southern fan but love the indignation by the self righteous eagles supporters.
Amazing how Southern pay big bucks to bring in star players and they win. Wonder if they had same budget as some others where they would finish. Recent memory before the cheque book came out they were down the bottom, funny about that.
League needs to have a proper salary cap and enforce it!

Not so sure about that - they have 2 imports, same as almost every other team & probably pay 2-3 of their clubs juniors who are now very good players (Brine, Johns etc). I'd say their spend is fairly typical around the league. It’s the ones like Norwood who poach Stanbridge for 10k that blow the budgets.

Rollout the balls, play Turnage and Mays for 35 mins and you have a title.

Yeah, they have 2 imports like most teams but they're on more money than everyone else. And I don't think brine was a club junior, was north I think.

The fact that you think Brine played juniors for north sheds a lot of light on how credible your info is on what Turnage and Mays get paid

Why would Turnage & Mays be on any more than others? North have two returning visa players. They would be on the most.

Brine started with Tigers and moved to North about U23's from memory. Seems he might be on about $1k a game from various sources. Norwood, Tigers and Forestville have biggest budgets

I'd put South in there too with what Al would be getting and a returning VISA player!

Southern Men will go undefeated and take it out and so they should given the money they are spending on the program.

How can they afford 36k to pay the imports plus Johns? Then they would be paying Brine, Ellison etc

Then they also have tp pay the Womens imports plus some players.

Who is there benefactor?

Hopefully the same happens as last year with a team like West upsetting them in the mens and all that money is wasted.

Southern have had the advantage of playing their full team up till now, an advantage for sure. Other teams (e.g Sturt,West) will be adding pieces to the back half of the season as college returnees join. Take a look at the 75% mark of the season to get a true indication of who has what to work with. The top 5 in the men is set, simply a matter of jockeying for positions now.

Have you watched a game, Johns is the point guard, brings the ball up and runs the offence, pretty sure that's the job description.
