Brenden Teys future

Brenden Teys is skipper of the club and a high quality player. Is he a long term player for the 6ers or could he move on to greener pastures??

What is his current contract? One year?

Greener pastures? Brendan Teys? Not unless he takes up lawnmowing for money.

Why is he captain then if fans dont have a high opinion? Captaincy usually goes to a key player.

Does he have any qualifications to fall back on post bball??

Long term??? Do you have any clue, been a fantastic servant of the club and a credit to have such a long career just by sheer work but he's at the end of his career. Really there now to maintain culture. Only real candidate to become captain in name because of Creeks indiscretions who is the true on court leader.
Still putting great numbers up in state league so should have a few years there, then who knows if a coaching career may start. Or head home to Queensland.

Putting up great numbers in a state league means nothing sorry other than his opponents are crap.

The fans don't pick the captain.

Yeah Teys and Doyle both struggled with Southern's length last night. Not many tricks in the bag. Sam Johns did a lot more for Southern than Teys did for the Eagles. Teys has been a good servant for the club, but it might be time to move on, depending on who we get as imports and available $$.

Both try to do too much, which is probably fair with the team around them. Forestville have very little on the bench, so are stuck playing for massive minutes.

Not to take anything away from Southern, I was blown away we managed to challenge such a good team to 3/4 time, but they stepped up to another level in the 4th.

Probably already designing their championship rings...

Teys will likely stay for as long as either Joey stays as coach, or he decides to retire.
Joey absolutely loves him. Still not entirely sure why, but there must be a reason for it.

Apparently when Teys became a DP for Joey at the Blaze he was the hardest worker Joey had ever seen.

The problem is the talent doesn't justify an NBL spot now.

Other DPs Joey has had like Goulding at Bullets actually had game. I think he thought with Teys he could do the same.

Although at least Joey does use the DP spot well unlike nearly every other coach.

Teys actually started off as a DP at the Bullets under Joey first.

Whilst it might feel a bit galling to see a roster spot used on Teys every coach/team has their favourites who usually stay on past their perceived use by date.

Perth - Greg Hire
Cairns - Stephen Weigh
Brisbane - Reuben Te Rangi?
Sydney - Tom Garlepp in the past maybe Dane Pineau now?
Illawarra - Kevin White
Melbourne - Kyle Adnam
New Zealand - Probably Shea Ili in the past maybe Jordan Ngatai now?

Lets be real here. Adelaide had probably the worst 10th and 11th in the comp not to mention the 12th who came in to the line-up. They were unable to contribute and 36ers were left short handed in finals. Joey couldn't and wouldn't play them in play-offs. Joey very loyal to his guys but at what cost. Adam D 3 year contract? Same for Brendan T and captaincy. There are lots of hard working guys with great attitudes around many of these very good basketballers. We are selling our club short with this loyalty stuff.

As discussed elsewhere, it appears that many teams are trying to comply withe 5-man cap/ That means there will be at least a couple of slots for spuds on the league minimum.

Picking a Captain is difficult. Yes, ideally you want somebody who excels on the court and leads from the front, but ultimately it is mostly about other qualities.

Oberon 20

If it's true he’s back to Coles, then the 36ers are not the only employer to promote him to a leadership position.

Whatever else he has, he has demonstrated leadership qualities.

Captain of Adelaide and a reference from Joey will help his cause. :)

A lot of people might not realise the value he has for us in the locker room. It's not always about what you see from the outside
