National coaching politics...

Australia's men stumbled to Greece in an upset - just shows how tough it is at that level and it was for Phil Smyth when he tried to build a national group together a few years ago and got bagged.
Big bad Brian was going to be the saviour! Perhaps his crtics now realize - unless we pay reasonable domestic $ for BIG NAME boys - we will stumble a little at international levels.

Australia - with a full strength team lost to NZ in a warm up game to the Olympics - yet noone seemed to call for Goorjan's dismissal....

What is paying "BIG NAMES reasonable domestic $" got to do with the Boomers being successful at international level? The experience gained in Europe/NBA would benefit the player a hell of a lot more than if they were to stay in the NBL.

What the.... You aren't very bright are you!

MW hit the nail on the head. If players are in the Euro league and the NBA then we have a far better chance of winning at an International event like the Olympics, due to the different playing style needed to win such an event. The only thing that is needed to take out a tournement is a gelled playing group, and a thoughful coach who can keep ego's in check!

Yes, there are obviously some political issues and it seems goorjan gets to do as he likes.
He is the coach though, and we have to accept B.A's decision to appoint him.

Bags are you trying to land a job in BA??
