Seabl final

Bendigo beat launceston 119 - 96 in the women's final.

Some crazy stats.
Gabe Richards scores 43 points and brings down 24 rebounds.
Kelly Wilson has 27 points and 20 assists. Crazy not considered in opals...

Chargers by 14 in slug fest, tough scrappy game muo, mvp 20 and 13, Moller 12 and 13 went stripe only twice couldn't get a call, Conn 21 and 17 but gets a free run from refs and takes offensive boards off own missed shots. Hobart far better team defence.

Most boring commentary in a grand final ever. The main caller sounded like he didn't want to be there. Do better next time SEABL.

Strange coaching from Biwer. Probably cost them the game.

I think the stats people were a bit generous with what they call an assist.

At one stage Wilson had 17 assists on 21 Bendigo field goals (taking out her own made baskets). She played a great game but there's no way she had 20 assists.

Before you accuse the Statisticians of being "generous" I suggest you read the 'new' FIBA definition for an assist which Statisticians have been instructed to use this season. It is certainly more liberal than the traditional one leading to an increase in the call of assists, making comparison of current and past players difficult. Similarly the 'new' FIBA definition for a steal means less steals are called.

The thing that makes any comparison difficult in seabl is the total unreliability of the scorebenches across the league.

Some seem to generally identify higher assist numbers. Some seem to have enormous difficulty identifying when an assist has been made. And some seem to be much more adept at identifying assists made by the home team.

It is a complete shambles.

In a semi professional league which is generally well run, the quality of the stats has to be an embarrassment. The players have zero confidence in them.

"At one stage Wilson had 17 assists on 21 Bendigo field goals."

Don't know how many FTS they had made but assists can also be to players who are fouled and make at least one free throw.

I don't think that's a new interpretation at all.

"Rumours of Seabl collapsing. Massive change"

Anon, whilst this makes for a great headline, it doesn't really tell us much.

Can you add any detail? What's causing the problems? What takes its place? Etc.

I thought SEABL was unaffiliating itself with BA. Further changes though?

Don't think the BA thing got up.
Canberra back to the Waratah. Pioneers to Adelaide and a final with all states in it is the rumour.

BA not going to sanction the league beyond the end of 2019 season
Teams to move back to state leagues
Tassie teams and Albury in limbo but will most likely join a super Big V conference

BA won't run the WNBL in future either. What that means for the WNBL is anyone's guess.
