Capital City Go Go

The Wizards have named their G League team the GoGo. Is this perhaps the worst and ridiculous name ever in professional sports. Is it the real reason why Alonzo Gee has come to the nbl after being selected by them in the expansion draft? The Tasmanian Southern Huskies has copped a bit of shit, as have United, but at least there's previous teams with them. Could name 36ers as out there but based on Philadelphia and the story behind the names they get a pass imo, but WTF is a GoGo????

The GoGos were a band in the 80s. (They sung Our lips are sealed - hardly an anthem for a sporting team)

Am I making too much of this but you said that 'the worst name in professional sport' and I immediately thought... G-League doesn't feel like a professional sporting organisation, it's the afterthought league with afterthought names.

There's a Japanese soccer team which recently recruited washed up ex premier league player Fernando Torres called Sagan Tosu.

their theme song will probably be the Stones - "Going to a Gogo"

no doubt their cheerleaders will be dressed as gogo dancers (thank you Dire Straits)

and their mascot will probably be Inspector Gadget

It's an awesome name.

Go-Go is a music genre that originated from Washington DC in the 70s and 80s. It's kind of upbeat funk with hip hop elements and lots of percussion. Trouble Funk, Junk Yard Band and E.U. were some of the more notable acts.

The team is named after the music style.
