Bullets considering third import after Hodgson injury

BRISBANE are set to pull the trigger on filling their vacant third import spot if Boomers centre Matt Hodgson is sidelined for an extended period with a calf injury.

Hodgson hurt his calf in the first half of the FIBA World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan in Bendigo on Monday night and had scans in Melbourne on Thursday.

Bullets medical staff are hopeful Hodgson will be fit for Brisbane's season-opener against New Zealand in Auckland on October 11, but the man mountain said on Thursday he could be out of action for four to six weeks.

Still...
The Bullets looked every bit a squad ravaged by injuries as they fell to a 91-69 loss to Illawarra in the opening game of the NBL Blitz pre-season tournament in Bendigo on Thursday.

The offence was clunky and had little cohesion after quarter-time, and the defence lacked intensity as the disjointed build-up to the season was laid bare.
Is ravaged a bit much? They had their four guards inc import Holt, stud import Gee, Bairstow, Te Rangi, Vukona, etc. Magnay isn't much of a known quantity, so it was mostly the absence of Hodgson that left them ravaged?

Heard weeks ago that Lemanis had not used the 3rd import spot in anticipation of Creek not sticking it out in Brooklyn and coming back to Australia.

Not saying that will happen now, but legit info at the time.

re Creek, how does Creek's availability relate to 3rd import spot? Has Mitch stopped being an Aussie?

Third import spot is still a roster spot. No need to be pedantic.

True, but if anything you'd go the other way. Settle your local spots, fill that last place with an import, and if Creek becomes available then bye bye import.
IIRC Lemanis said right from the re-entry that he wanted to keep one slot as an injury reserve. Perth have done the same thing this season.

Lemanis also said when they re-signed Bairstow that he would be in place of a third import.
