Future opals WC and Olympic qualification

http://www.fiba.basketball/womens-calendar

Looks like we have to finish top 4 in an Asian tournament that is a seperate tournament to Asia cup.

16 teams- 4 from Asia, 2 from Africa, 4 from americas, 6 from Europe go into last tournament where they will be divided into 4 groups with the top 3 teams qualyfying for WC or Olympics.

I'd say the groups will be splits into 1 Africa or euro team, 1 Asia team, 1 Americas team, 1 euro team.

It means a lot more internationals will be played and it will really test our depth.

There is a bit in this...

Australia consolidates status in latest FIBA world rankings

Apart from the USA women's team who have already directly qualified for the Tokyo Olympics, national teams will take part in the FIBA Women’s Pre-Qualifying Tournaments in three Regions - Africa, Americas, Asia (including Oceania) in order to qualify for one of the four global FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments 2020, which will be played in February next year. Six spots at this event will go to Europeans team from the 2019 Eurobasket event.

Seems odd that you play the Asia cup in September 2019 (8 teams) and then replay the same 8 teams in November in Olympic qualification. Top 4 go through to next qualifying stage.

Will help to put the 12 best teams in the WC or Olympics.
Likely won't see 1 of 2 Africa, 1 of 4 Americas, 1 of 4 Asia teams make the final tournament instead of the guaranteed, 2, 4 and 4.
Should have stayed with 16 teams imo.

Meanwhile the men's WC goes from 24 to 32 teams.
