Been 2 entertaining games on the first 2 Friday nights, NBL probably spewing they didn't lock up a Friday timeslot on 9Go.

I can assure you the NBL would have tried.

TV ratings appear to be slowly rising but are a long way off from being in prime time on FTA

Average audience of 28K for a regular season game on Fox is really good for the NBL. If they could get near that consistently this season they'd be very happy, would show steady progress.

"really good for the NBL" is meaningless praise. an audience of 3 people nationally is really good for under 13s tiddlywinks but is not going to command much money for its tv rights or sponsorship. I wonder what kind of number the league should actually be aiming for. Maybe 100k on Fox and 200k on Go?

The NBL was up against the Test cricket on Fox last night wasn't it?

Still 28K isn't a good figure but it always takes people a good month or so to start paying attention to the NBL but at the same time it's Foxtel the FTA ratings are much more meaningful.

28k isnt bad this early in the year on Fox, however all Kings games should draw bigger viewers. Maybe the same match up in a row drew some fans away. Again, why does the NBL schedule the same teams to play in consecutive weeks is absurd.

Interestingly, anyone know what the corresponding A-League match got in comparison? That was also Adelaide v Sydney in Adelaide.

Last night was the most high quality games I'd seen in a while. Great advertisement for NBL.

The league is going to live and die on its 9Go ratings. 28K still puts it just slightly outside the top 20 things watched on Foxtel for the day, on a medium that comparatively few people own.

Only 25% population got fox, all people I know watch on the net. How do you count those, believe it or not lots of people don't see fox as good value to their hard earned dollars.

For comparison, Sydney v Adelaide on a Saturday night, opening round last season rated 20,000 on Foxtel

Solid improvement.

28K is a very good average audience by NBL standards on Fox. Not that many NBL regular season games have got a bigger average figure than that on STV. Of course FTA will be higher, the difference being the league gets 120+ games on STV (in both Aus and NZ), compared to around 40 on FTA.

Having that greater overall number watching the games throughout the year is very important for current and potential sponsors, and for getting other media outlets paying attention, so Fox is a must for the NBL.

It wasn't praise, far from it, it was about providing context with what's happened in the past. The NBL isn't going to suddenly grow an audience, it is going to have to be a steady build, which is happening. The figures in the first year of the deal were very low, so it's good to see progress.

In terms of what they should be aiming for, I think over the next couple of seasons getting to 50K average on Fox and 100K on Go is a realistic goal and would be very helpful for the league trying to negotiate new deals.

This Brisbane v Perth game is doing coverage no favors. Both teams are the most boring teams in the league by a long, long way.

High Quality?

Have to ask the question, because teams score a lot of points, does that make a game high quality???

No one played any defence for Christ's sake. If there were 3 more dunks,it would have been a better game???

Yes, I remember the early years on Fox. The ratings were averaging between 8 and 12,000 per game at one point. If you broke 20,000 you may have opened a bottle of champagne.

NBL.tv has ads now which is great as it provides revenues to the NBL and makes the product more sustainable.
