Jawai looking legitimately slimmer this season.

Kelly looking like a very good coach for cairns. Love his time outs.

Interesting game, nice tempo to it. Hawks starters have 43 points at 52% at half-time and looking really good together, but not getting enough from their bench with Ogilvy and White out.

They are giving Newbill and Trimble some space to cover penetration and they've banged 6/9 three-pointers which is keeping Cairns in front. Hopefully second half like the first.

Commentary is ridiculous. Trigger tells of landing on damian martins foot for his ankle injury and wortho no doubt chimes in with an of course it wasn't a foul, it never is a foul when you land on another players foot. Just more commentary hate for the cats.

It's a foul if they don't have legal position and didn't give you space to land.

Kernich-Drew is the new version of Drew Williamson. Great in state league but not able to put anything together in NBL.

Terrific win by the Hawks. Blanchfield was spectacular. Amazing what happens to some of these guys when they go to a great coach.

I would love to see Reid's howler on the weekly review, can't see it happening though! He has a history of seeing things that just aren't there. The game was really well reffed overall though, did a solid job from start to finish and it produced a clean game.

Awesome win by the Hawks, all their veterans stood up, Jett and Jackson controlled things well, Conklin was a beast inside and Blanchfield was pretty much unstoppable.

I would like to see them go with Andersen in the starting five permanently, he gives better balance to the backcourt of penetrators. Then bring AJ and Coenraad on for Andersen and Conklin and run smaller in the middle of quarters.

I also like the move to bring Jett off the bench to start the second half, give Naar some time alongside Jackson and then get a scoring and defensive burst with your first sub.

It was the highest score against Cairns from any team since 2009 in non-overtime games. AKA no team scored that many points against an Aaron Fearne led team.

The players literally gave up playing defence in the last minute giving Jett and Conklin some easy layups and O boards... That's concerning from a culture stand point - is that what you are about?

It will be difficult for the Taipans to compete consistently if they can't get it together defensively. They will compete when they are hitting shots but will struggle and get blown out if they aren't... Looking at their depth you would say the latter will happen more...

Let's not overreact after a W against Brisbane last week. These guys are still the favourite for the spoon

Bevo is the master coach.
He should be our Boomers coach!

Lazy TOs cost Cairns dearly & apart from a couple of dubious foul calls on Ando, the refs were again very good & let the players determine the outcome of the game.

Bevo's still a master of the game. Hawks figured out within 5 minutes that Melo's got sloppy handles when advancing the ball or driving to the basket under pressure and targeted him constantly. Taipans passing was also weak, 5+ passes out of bounds, telegraphing passes across the court etc. hawks were switched on to this from the get go and exploited it ruthlessly.

best case scenario they squeeze 2-3 points more out of each of the Aussie players, learn their plays, improve their passing and sharpen up their defence and they'll be strong this year.

worst case scenario they they're going to be soft as butter all season. Still think the Bullets are worse though.

also loved the fact that jordair jett was wearing one of the free hungry jacks headbands that they were giving away to the crowd..

Bit concerning that a big result would have so few comments. How many Hawks fans are there left?

Watched the game on NBL TV. Can I ask the commentators to please interrupt their banter to explaing, occasionally, things that have happened.

Maybe not everything, but when the USF was called, it virtually went unnoticed.
