I think we have learnt that recruiting older ex-NBA players requires due diligence. The imports have been a real mixed bunch.
Returning Australians have done better: Bogut, Bairstow, Heal, Gaze, Bradtke, Anstey, Jawai (in Perth), Andersen, Schenscher.
Recruiting younger imports who had brief NBA careers has seen some great NBL players: Grace, Rose, Ware, Copeland, McClain, Owes.
Maybe the take home is that NBL franchises should go for 2 types of ex-NBA players: returning Aussies and imports still in their prime and hungry. The first is a natural, come home to finish your career thing. The younger imports would be harder to recruit: if you can't maintain an NBA roster spot, come down under where the lifestyle is great and there’s no language barriers if you only speak English.
