Sixers streak

All of a sudden the Sixers are at three wins in a row and have a very good chance to extend it further with 4 of the next 5 at home.

"They seem to like this time of year" was my initial thought...

Which then led me to these stats:

2017-18 in late December/January went 7-0.

2016-17 in January went 6-0.

Although is this merely due to heavy home fixturing? Since teams like Perth and Melbourne can't host games in January due to tennis the more flexible arenas such as Adelaide host more games.

Sixers winning streak and Wildcats losing streak at this time of year could be correlated to this? Is it that simple?

The new import that arrives after the original one gets sacked has had time to settle in as well.

To make finals I'd say the criteria will be something like:

1. Go 2-1 v NZ/Hawks minimum (10-9)
2. Beat Brisbane in Brisbane (11-9)
3. Rest of games achiever positive win ratio (5-3)

Which would achieve that 16-12/15-13 record that is likely necessary to make top 4.

36ers have always played their most inconsistent basketball at the start of the season under Joey wright expect for 2013/14.

2014/15 4W-10L FINISHED 17W/11/
2015/16 7W-8L FINISHED 14W/14L (were 14-10 when Randle got injured and could not adjust in time to qualify for finals)
2016/17 3W-6L- FINISHED 17W/11L
2017/18 8W-8L- FINISHED 18W/10L

The OP's suggestion that lopsided home-away draws for some teams may be at play looks unlikely for Perth. Here's Perth's home-away games by month for this season:

October - 3H 2A
November - 3H 3A
December - 2H 5A
January - 3H 3A
February - 3H 1A

In the last five seasons Perth only had fewer than 3 home games in January 2015 (2), which was under previous NBL management. They had 4 away games in January in three of those seasons, 1 away game in one season, and 2 away games in one season.

For Melbourne, OP's suggestion looks possible. Here's this season's draw by month for Melbourne:

October - 3H 2A
November - 4H 3A
December - 3H 2A
January - 1H 4A
February - 3H 3A

In each of the previous five seasons Melbourne had 2 home games and 3 away games (1 season), 4 away games (3 seasons) or 5 away games (1 season).

Sixers need to at the minimum split all games against Breakers, beat Brisbane and then it will come down to beating Perth, if Perth drop some more games, then may even be able to take spot from them.

Never been too worried when sixers drop early games as they usually come good with Joey. When they cut an import it does usually take sixers a couple weeks to get comfortable again aswell.
