Adelaide sign Obi Kyei

As predicted by a source on the forum Adelaide have signed Obi Kyei a 206cm power forward to a two year deal completing their roster.

Good numbers in QBL last year but I'd be shocked if he made an impact at NBL level.

Looks like a great signing. Skillset, size and athleticsm will translate VERY well to NBL level and Joey's system.

I'm not against a bit of creativity and fun, but does anyone else not really like the way Adelaide have been announcing these signings on twitter?

This isnt a complaint at all, just an observation. Seems like they're trying too hard maybe? Just ordinary announcements are fine.

I bet you Obi is sick of all these Star Wars jokes too...

"Good numbers in QBL last year but I'd be shocked if he made an impact at NBL level."

To put that into perspective he averaged 20.37 pts, 9.95 reb and 2.4 ast in the QBL last year. Mitch Young managed 22.6/12/2.7 for the same team...

"Better team than last season."

Yes much better balance with an emphasis on defense

"Were are the points coming from"

A better question is where is the points not coming from. They can all score besides probably white

Well....at the very least the 36ers will be a bit better balanced, just as mobile, more physical and should be better defensively.

*Taylor / Dillon - Unsure of Taylor so let's call it evens.
*Moore / White / Teys - White is a significant downgrade from what we had last year.
Drmic / McVeigh - Significant downgrade from Conger / McVeigh.
*Wiley / Kyei - Downgrade from Wiley / Deng.
Johnson / Froling - The Same.

While I like to keep positive, I don't see any position where we have improved., at best it is the same where we have traded offence for defence.

When White is on, it's 4 on 5.

I can only be hopeful and trust that the coach can bring it altogether.

A lot people selling White short here, yes he's a good defender but he was also a very good three point shooter, didn’t do it at Illawarra because it wasn’t required of him but he can. Deng imo was overrated as well and totally inconsistent, Kyrie could prove better and should not pinch to many minutes from Wiley who is going great in Spain.

I'll wait to see this team in action before I judge it but I feel like, for Adelaide to make the playoffs, we need breakout years from McVeigh, Drmic and Frolling. Joey seems to be a master at bringing out the best in talented young players so we will see where he takes it.

So White played 17 games last season in the WASBL. From 3 he was 32.29% 31 - 96. He had a full season to show he can do it and how did that turn out?

Wouldn't have thought Waratah league is even upto the standard of a midweek comp in Melbourne so thats not saying much

Yeah, look, its a somewhat underwhelming roster, but there were slim pickings in FA this year. Unless they went after Bairstow, and they presumably weren't prepared to offer what he wanted.

Now that said, I do tend to think they needed to do better with their imports. But I guess wait and see on Dillon. He could be brilliant.

I sense he has the higher moral ground and if you were to strike him down, he shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

So looks like Perth for Bairstow. Has he got a European passport coz I don't think they'll be paying much for an bench Autralian coming off a major knee injury. Or will he be one of those guys teams will keep an eye on in case they need to make change. Either way it looks like he is taking paycut

According to Liam and Corey, Wiley not expected to be back.
Liam mentions he's seen the list of potential replacements and don’t worry Adelaide

Glass half full for me; I was worried new signings would have me regret canning our tickets.

That has not been the case.

Best of luck with it all.
