From memory, Redhage played in South America most NBL offseasons during his career. Does this mean he wasn't a keeper? How about the majority of the league which is in a similar situation to Randle?

Redhage also spent several years at one NBL club so not the best case for your argument.

Cairns might look at him but doubt any other team would bother.

Most imports change teams either every year or every other year. Not unique for Randle.

Anon is sort of right....

He went from SEABL to the Wildcats so obviously not a keeper there either.

Redhage 5 teams in the same period of time. 9 in his entire professional career :P

Fun to watch when he is scoring. Horrible to watch otherwise.

If he is not volume shooting and scoring, he does not bring much else.

Adelaide seemed like a perfect system for him, run and gun.
Yet he struggled to get along with Joey?

My bet is Cairns as a cheaper last minute import after he has no other options. He will possibly lead the league in scoring (and shot attempts) and Cairns wont win many games.

Randle's a professional journeyman. It's not uncommon. He has an agent and goes wherever is offering the best deal at the time.
I'm sure like every young buck, he dreamt of being drafted by team X and playing his entire NBA career for one team. Didn't happen but he's still carved out a decent career for himself.
And he might still have preferred a long-term career with a single team, but its a two-way street. As we have seen with Sydney, they saw an opportunity to upgrade and did so.
He's played a lot of his career in Europe (the 2nd biggest market out side USA) and it seems to me that Euro teams are quite ruthless when it comes to their imports.

I think the point regarding Redhage was that even an Ultra "one club" player like him, will have off-season gigs that adds to his tally of clubs.

The thing about every basketball team is that they have only 5 starters, and the roles are highly specialised. There's only one spot for a starting PG. Import restrictions make that even tighter, and for Randle in particular he's simply too small to play as an SG.

This is all well and good, but most good imports in the NBL stick.
(Good players, good people)
Brice Cotton and Casper Ware are prime examples. (Even tho Casper left melb, word was they wanted him back, and Syd threw the bank at him)

I see Randle as a good player on bad teams to bring in fans and some excitement. (Cairns,
Even wollongong but doubt that happens after his history there) If he is your marquee import you are not winning it all.

Bryce Cotton and Casper Ware are exceptions to the rule. I mean, years ago it was pretty normal, but over the past 15-20 years it hasn't been that way the vast majority of the time with imports. I think a combination of the league's prestige as well as the top team's financial situations are changing seeing it swing around again.

Randle has been the best player on a good team (Adelaide). You can win it all with him too in the NBL I think, just have to surround him with the right guys.

"I think, just have to surround him with the right guys." Yeah great idea. Surround one player selection with a team. Pass.
Never liked him and no loss. Did nothing for the Kings, so go back to the Ukraine. Your Aussie days are done.
Incidentally it says a lot about the selection by JVG as well.

The teams we know that have no need for Randle:

Adelaide - Taylor
Perth - Cotton
Brisbane - Sobey
Sydney - Ware
Melbourne - Trimble
New Zealand - Hampton

Teams left:

SE Melbourne
Cairns
Illawarra

Hawks have ponied up to sign Boone & Sam Froling plus hope to re-sign Andersen so probably likely to bring back Jett or sign a similarly cheaper PG. Taipans are expected to re-sign Jawai and if the QLD govt aren't back on board will eat up a lot of their expenditure and can't see Randle taking a significant pay cut to play there.

I think SEM are probably the only real option and their finances are tied up in Creek and could be sometime before they know what's happening there.

Why not Brisbane for a Randle?

They played together at Adelaide.

If Sobey is used at SG (his correct position, imho) there is a spot for him.

Probably a moot point anyway, don't think he’d fit into Lemanis’ system.

Nice suggestion - Randle-Sobey would be pretty good. Too bad Brisbane has Cadee and his lover Lemanis though.
