Why wouldnt you make sure they have a working with children check.
Ok, A) Who has an au paire these days
B) A 33 year old woman posing as a 17 year old girl
C) I'd be checking the shit out of anyone looking after my kid(s)

I just read the article.
She's conned a lot of people, and probably none more than herself. A deeply disturbed individual. She needs professional help, but would be very convincing as a person to pity. Only Jarvis would know, but he and his wife probably felt sorry for her and thought they were helping her out.
