JJ Redick Declines Team USA Invite

New Orleans Pelicans guard JJ Redick told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday that he won't accept the invitation to join the depleted USA Basketball roster for the FIBA World Cup in September.

Redick, who spent the past two seasons in Philadelphia, said Thursday he was eager to be a part of USA Basketball's training camp, tour and World Cup in China, but he said he was weighing his family's offseason transition to a new city in his decision concerning the six-week offseason commitment.

The Team USA training camp starts Aug. 5 in Las Vegas.

Apparently Jeremy Lin doesn't have a lot on his plate right now.

Wow hard sell to fans who coughed up big money for tickets.

The corporate are really unhappy as they purchased very expensive packages to gift to clients on the promise of actual NBA starters/stars playing and it might be the Boomers Lite vs NBA benchies who want a free holiday

Since Lin aligned himself with Taiwan after turning down an offer to play for China the organisers wouldn't want him.

Reality are you trolling?

The squad is still made up primarily of starters for playoff teams. You have:

Walker - All Star
Tatum - playoff starter
Brown - playoff starter
Mitchell - playoff starter
Tucker - playoff starter
Lowry - Champs starter
Middleton - playoff starter
Drummond - playoff starter
Young - playoff starter
Turner - playoff starter

I don't think Goulding's claim that they're better than any NBA team is accurate but they would make the NBA finals most years.

The Australian team is the biggest disappointment given our lack of depth. I think the usa third team was largely expected.

Exum out
Maker out
Broekhoff out
Simmons out

Really hope scalpers fucked themselves over and lose a bundle. Can expect a lot of discounted tickets appearing on eBay. Might get a courtside seat for $50 the way things are heading.

Thats a very average team that the USA are putting out.

Walker is the only all star from last year and he "lead" the hornets to great success over the last few years!

Everyone else mentioned are role players not a star among them.

There are an many all stars on the Serbian & Greek team as the USA will role out.

Its also fair to suggest in the FIBA games those above mentioned teams will be better suited.

Who from Team USA can guard Jokic?? Drummond.....?

Reality, you can talk it down all you like, and there's no question we're missing every single superstar. Every guy who could be referred to by one name, every all-NBA guy, everyone.

You have no credibility, though, because you insist on hyperbolising as though there's nothing worth talking about in the group that is coming. Walker *is* an All-Star. Tatum, Brown and Mitchell are widely considered future all-stars. Lowry was the starting PG and probably 3rd best player on a team that just won the NBA title, including beating the star-studded 76ers and the MVP's Bucks en route. Tucker is the starting PF for the team that came closest to taking out a full-strength Durant-era Warriors. When the Boomers line up against this incarnation of Team USA, how many of the ten best players in the game will be Boomers? Ingles?

I agree that the US front line is particularly weak and they're going to struggle with Jokic, Giannis and Gobert. The Euro teams have played together more and are used to FIBA rules. I don't think the US should enter the tournament as favourites, certainly not ahead of the field. But let's be realistic that no one except you thinks they're going to be easy beats.

"There are an many all stars on the Serbian & Greek team as the USA will role out."

USA have Kemba (2019), Lowry (5x, including this year), Middleton (2019) and Drummond (2016&18).
Who do Greece and Serbia have?
