Illawarra Hawks announce partnership with SLAM

Looks like prominent branding on each Hawks singlet:

The Illawarra Hawks have announced a brand-new partnership with basketball giant SLAM Media Inc. for the 2019/20 season.

The announcement with SLAM, a full-service basketball media company, will see them take the lucrative position of Front of Jersey Sponsor on the Illawarra Hawks Home and Away Jersey for the NBL20 season.

The deal will catapult exposure of the Illawarra Hawks into an international market, predominately in the USA.

Illawarra Hawks General Manager, Mat Campbell said he was excited to welcome SLAM to the Illawarra Hawks family.

Imagine someone telling you 12 months ago that SLAM would be sponsoring the Illawarra Hawks in 19-20.

Do we think any money is involved in the deal or is it about levering dollars/clicks and views for other sponsors

Huge news for local brand whores who associate a name brand with credibility. NBA fanbois will eat this up, which makes it a great signing.

Oh yeah there's money involved. Sponsorship prices have tripled for this season. My mate used to be a player sponsor for $12,000 for the season, seats down the front. When he went back this season it was $30k for a player sponsor, over $120k for a jersey sponsor. Can't see the hawks handing out that for retweets.

The NBL needs sponsors or their is no NBL just the same as any sports
And the NBL needs fans or their is no interest
Melo and SLAM are the biggest news ever to come out of the NBL ever and the start of the season is still a month away.

@Fryz interesting figures. The problem is what happens post-Ball when bridges are burnt with the older long-term sponsors in such a small market.

Imagine if Melo gets on the cover in his NBL gear (possibly with RJ Hampton too?).

I could see it potentially happening

Absolutely you'd be trying to leverage a multi year deal if you can. The idea of brands leaving after Ball goes home isn't sustainable and their involvement with America should be more extensive with NBAxNBL games next season with their sponsorship on the jerseys

Ummm,I think Slam realise Melo will only be there for 1 year so why would they go for multiple years. Don't think Ogilvy will be on their front page in 21/22. Some people should go to basic marketing class to understand that. Doubt the Big Issue would even take free advertising on the singlet after next year, be too depressing for their readers.

If the talent in the nbl doesn't rise significantly in the next few years, I can see the league being laughed at outside of Aus. A league that looks to make headlines through popular figures but lacks The overall talent and quality gameplay. Looking at most benches in the nbl atm and it looks pretty grim.
We have several Australians and kiwis overseas still that are earning less in Bush leagues but have chosen to play in for more gametime and as a result nbl rosters are being filled with players that are not nbl level. We also have a lot of nbl players in there mid 30s currently and are at the end of there career with few quality young guys coming into the league to replace them The Next few years could be a little shaky if they don’t boost the cap or bring in higher calibre imports.
Those in the nbl that keep saying it is the 2nd best league in the world are kidding themselves, it is not even a top 5 league.

Wow. He really is a wood duck. That is an obscene anout of money to pay for a player sponsor. Let alone the other figures you have quoted. #wooduck
