No real surprises with those cuts (given that Alanna Smith is injured atm)

Probably the squad I would select tbh. Griffin is unlucky but Sami Whitcomb fills more of a need.

Will be interesting to see who makes it, considering the WNBA playoffs start on Sept 11 and this tournament starts on Sept 24.
Allen looks safe because NY probably won't make the playoffs.
Cambage looks unlikely because Vegas are going well.
At least one of Talbot, Mitchell & Whitcomb could be pushing it - which is likely not a problem since Mitchell & Whitcomb can't both participate anyway.

Garbin and Mansfield...... just no.
Glad Madgen got cut, hasn't been any good in years.
Bishop possibly to slow for the pf spot and too small at Center.

Aokuso unlucky imo.

Mitchell/Ebzery/Seekamp
Talbot/Nicholson
Allen/Ohea
George/Magbegor/Blicavs
Cambage/Tolo

The team is going to be

Ebzery/Seekamp/Mansfield
Ohea/Nicholson
Allen/Blicavs
Magbegor/Bishop/Garbin
Tolo/George

Cambage-3rd Las Vegas
Whitcomb-6th Seattle
Talbot-7th Minnesota
Mitchell, Smith(inj)-8th Phoenix
Allen-10th New York (unlikely to make finals with 4 wins off 8th)

Less than 5 days between prelim finals and start of Asia cup.

Lol. 3rd place finish at best in Asia.

It's basically impossible for at least one out of Talbot, Whitcomb & Mitchell to not be finished in the WNBA on Sept 16.
Over 1 week to make it to India doesn't seem like too much of a stretch.

Without Cambage, we always struggle.
Griffin was mvp last asia cup and we still got beaten.
Hard to see us winning it.

Cambage has already hinted at retiring from opals after Tokyo.
From then on the opals could drop back quite a ways in the rankings.

We are also going to lose Mitchell, Ohea,. Bishop and soon Ebzery, George, Whitcomb and Griffin because of age before the next WC. All mid 30s next major cycle.
Add buntons retirement and all of a sudden we have a very young and inexperienced team.

The new depth chart becomes...
G
Mangakahia 95
Lavey 93
Seekamp 92
Cole 92
Wallace 96
Wehrung 95
Garrick 92
Wilson 94
F
Nicholson 93
Talbot 94
Kunek 91
Allen 92
P
Froling 96
Garbin 94
Payne 93
Blicavs 93
Froling 96
Smith 96
Magbegor 99
Aokuso 98
Scherf 96

Think you will find quite a few more names will be needed to add to that list

Lavey has missed out
Alex Wilson shouldn't even be a consideration
Cole and Garrick were cut super early
Wherung not even considered
Wallace two knee recon let’s see how she pulls up and mangakahia May have more important things to be dealing with poor girl

This squad is probably going to get tuned up.

China, Japan and nz will have their best squads and we will be missing 4 to 5 of our best 12.

I'd have Lavey over Mansfield.
Cole, Garrick and zitina should all be considered.

Asia is about keeping your playerin front. A lot of flat footed players on the list.

Phoenix & Minnesota are now out of the WNBA playoffs, potentially freeing up Mitchell, Talbot & Brondello for Opals duties.

Mitchell
Mansfield or Seekamp

Chicago vs Las Vegas on the 15th. A loss to Las Vegas would be good for us.

I doubt she would have mace herself available anyway, but that seals it.

Crazy end to a game!

So Vegas win a single elimination game on a bad heave because the player with the ball didn't realise there was enough time on the clock to penetrate to the basket. Yet said shot goes in. So bad yet since it went in it's so good...

We ain't winning this asia cup. Mansfield and Seekamp shouldnt be near the squad and we a short handed in the post with no Cambage, Tolo or bunton(now retired)

Squad probably now.
Mitchell / Ebzery / Seekamp
Talbot / Nicholson
Allen / Ohea
Magbegor / Bishop / Blicavs
George / Tolo

Missing out
Mansfield
Whitcomb
Garbin
Cambage

Think I would have had

Mitchell / Ebzery
Talbot / Nicholson / Garrick
Allen / Ohea
George / Magbegor / Blicavs
Tolo / Aokuso

Really impressed with opals today. Dominated a full strength China.

Everyone was good except maybe Seekamp. Mitchell still to come in.

Unfortunately fringe opal zitina Aokuso has torn her ack l and will be out for a year. No chance at Olympics for her and Townsville lose starting centre.
Thought she could have come close to a call up with smith out and now also looks like Tolo is out,

wouldnt be too impressed, this China team has been beaten by everyone they have played so far during their tour, and those teams were not filled with Opals either.

sad about the young Aokso, but the door should now open for Sherf who frankly should have been there to begin with.

Anon, they china sent 2 teams. China b played against the nbl1 stars and wnbl teams. Only opals played china A.
China a are superior to china b, particularly in the post.

Scherf is awhile away I reckon.

Hard to see her pushing out Magbegor, smith or Aokuso who can all play centre and forward.
Tolo likely to be her last run up until Olympics and Bunton is now retired which only leaves 1 legit centre in Cambage and even she might call it a day after Tokyo.

Only 1 post spot will open up after 2020 in the post and it could be scherf or it could be Garbin (pushing others to centre.)
Beyond that, the only other options with any size are youngsters Mcspadden, Anstey or Hannan..
