Future World Cup idea

Should the world cup (or Olympics) be changed to an under 23 tournament and keep the other as an all ages tournament?

Will this make international basketball better or worse?

Olympics will go to 3on3 rubbish leaving the World Cup as the pinnacle for basketball. That's what FIBA wants.

Difference between Barlow and Adel is four centimetres. Seems strange to me given Adel is a chance to play in Rio and Barlow has 0% chance and that Barlow won't even be playing more than 5 mins a game. At least Adel could learn from the experience.

FIBA will be doing their best to de-emphasize the Olympic Games and shift the focus to the World Cup, where FIBA can potentially make more money ... just like soccer. Why give away your premium competition to the Olympic Games where the IOC makes all of the money when you can keep it for yourself?!

Olympic Games will eventually move to 3x3 - more urban/street, a much deeper pool of decent countries and less bed-nights for host cities.

Hold all world cups in the USA so all the top NBA players can attend with no excuses.

FIBA want the World Cup to be the pinnacle of Basketball (because they can actually control and get money from the event) but no one in the US cares (or Australia it seems considering how people are reacting to the US players dropping out).

If the World Cup becomes a U23 comp, they'd really be cancelling the World Cup and introducing a new tournament, which FIBA won't gain revenue from.

If they turn the Olympic tournament into a U23 tournament, the top NBA players would never play international basketball.

What about just a 32 team knockout?

Adel by all reports was struggling to pick up the team concepts and offence so letting him go back to the USa and work on his game to secure a longterm NBA gig make sense.

Plenty of time for Adel to develop and be a key part of the olympic team.
