The Calmness of Will Weaver (Revised)
Ejected after spitting the dummy at the end of the first half. He had to be restrained and escorted off court by players.

Screwed by exactly the same referee that screwed Phoenix on Saturday. Time to show some leadership by NBL referee management and send this guy back to domestic midweek.

Seems a bit of an over-reaction to one bad call, though - there are usually lots worse to complain about!

"Always home cooking for home team."
Then Sydney will get the same treatment soon. No harm no foul?
Damn. He was one of the calmest coaches I've ever seen until that point. Guess he met his tipping point.
Lmao, just saw the replay lf what what happened

All of this because Tate was slightly, albeit noticeably, pushed before setting the screen... Wow

Will Weaver doesn't want to talk to Melbourne about Melbourne.

I can only guess weaver had already yelled at the refs about the same thing on other screens.
Melbourne's screens all move, he blew gasket, should not have but that’s how home cooking works in Australia.
Weaver got a hell of a game on our hands here .

Bogut does the same thing... I guess it's still home cooking since he's a Victorian?
Deshon Taylor lucky his coach got the boot ... might have disappeared forever .

What exactly did he get so incensed over?
I'm still not clear

Weaver should miss a game for that.
Bad look for the game.

Weaver didn't do himself any favors In the presser either
30 seconds saying how he respects the NBL officials.... then..."BUT" 5 minutes justifying his outburst
Something tells me he hasn't really learnt his lesson
Surely he gets fined for his comments in that presser. He would have enjoyed watching all of Ware's trips to the charity stripe in the second half.

It was a little bizarre when he wandered off into arguing that Sydney shoots more shots near the hoop than any other team but only gets to the free throw line the 6th most
6 games into your coaching career, perhaps a bit early to be implying the league has some conspiracy against your team
Seemed weird. You'd think the embarrassment of the moment (a tantrum which would make a 3 year old proud...helping your team to a first loss) would create a golden opportunity for some introspection and humility
Instead, quite the opposite. Makes you wonder where his emotional intelligence is at. A quality you need as a pro sport coach no less
Push Tate = Weaver not so calm.
I hope he doesn't get pushed again this season.

How is it the refs re so arrogant cock sure of themselves yet come review they seem to be more open to possibility they could God forbid have made an error. Self seeking glory seeking. You clownsgo to the review because of poordecisions they should be fined for stuffing up.
So over there f... ups.

772400, your statement reflects exactly what I feel too.
Very late in the game was an incident where a player (I think Ware) asked for a review. As the request was being declined, I overheard the I-don't-make-mistakes ref say something like "No, I don't think that needs a review".
Is the review system there only for the refs' sake or can the teams (coach or capt) actually ask for (= demand) the review, ala cricket?
No, the teams can't ask for/demand a review. I don't even know what Ware would be asking for a review for.

'Moving Screens' - I have searched for this innovation and inclusion for this season's NBL, can't seem to find it yet all teams appear to be using this tactic successfully, go figure!
No wonder there is a sense of frustration out there...
Melbourne are the best at it, Pledger especially, he quite literally pushes the defender trying to get through, it opens up his shooters with a lot more space. In close games it the difference of winning and losing.

Agree about the moving screens - they're so blatant but yet they're allowed. It seems that sticking the backside out is allowed, and turning the body as well; sticking the hip and leg out seems to be called inconsistently.
The other one which pisses me off intensely is where the attacker being close-marked can push the defender's arm away (often with a little head-check to suck in the refs) and often get a favourable foul call out of it.
In each case, the attacker went out of his cylinder or was moving in order to cause the contact, whereas the defender stayed in his cylinder or tried to avoid contact.
Ffs be consistent, refs!!

Satire aside, it is a physical league, I think many of us and the players not only acknowledge it but the players by and large don't mind it that way.
So, in a physical league where rules of contact apply, such as in the case of basketball, the officiating will always be inconsistent, subjective and frustrating.
Either we accept this and get on with the game or we sit here and carry on like the coach did and just place more focus on the fact that we have a very physical league!

"Very late in the game was an incident where a player (I think Ware) asked for a review. As the request was being declined, I overheard the I-don't-make-mistakes ref say something like "No, I don't think that needs a review". "
No, the Ref was 100% correct, there was nothing to review, which is what he actually said.
In the last 2 minutes when the ball is to be thrown in, if a defender fouls before the ball is released, it is an automatic unsportsmanlike.
" In the last 2 minutes when the ball is to be thrown in, if a defender fouls before the ball is released, it is an automatic unsportsmanlike."
I think Ware's issue was he felt Trimble tripped over himself/threw himself to the ground with no contact and just because the ball hadn’t been inbounded it resulted in an USF for Ware. His review request was around it being a flop aka a Goulding.
No, Ware felt that Trimble was holding him and it therefore wasn't a foul. He said as much.
The problem with his argument is that he started holding Trimble before the play was live, and illegally impeded Trimble's path. Whether or not Trimble held him back as a result is irrelevant.
"Weaver was fined $500 for excessive dissension towards the referees at the end of the second quarter."
WOW.

Minimum fine in NBA is $1000. He dodged a bullet. Every player I talked to said good for him. Players love coach s who stand up for them. He's already well liked among players. This just bumps him up a notch. Wait till you see the squad he puts together next year. Creek a much better player having spent a season under Weaver last year. Shawn Bruce also much better this year. Like him or don't, he develops players.

If he's already well-liked by the players, then why cost his team two points and potentially the game?
Also I don't buy that Weaver has "developed" Shaun Bruce to this level in the span of 2 months. That's pretty farfetched.
What Weaver does is no the quality of his players before he even approaches them, what there good at what not so good and then moulds that into an outfit that works. Bruce, Moller ,Kickett are big contributors off the bench, he uses there strengths.
