Why though? From all accounts Hawks are looking at some pretty good players to replace Aaron Brooks. Why would you want to throw in some scrub brother and make the season even more about LaMelo than it already is?

@ME their season is basically over so for a regional team they should capatialise on this opportunity to make more revenue from having Lamelo. Getting Liangelo would hopefully keep him for the rest of the season and can set up a bright future for the illawarra hawks for many years to come.

The hawks have two spots open for imports. it's been rumoured Li Angelo has been training with the hawks over the last few weeks. And it would bring a lot more attention to the hawks from the USA.
It will come down to how much cash do the hawks have left on the salary cap and in their wallet.

As a general concept, I don't mind the idea.
But at this point, no.
They have one "open" import slot, and they need to add somebody GOOD.

They would only swap out Boone, to get a good player of better fit.

To use that 3rd import slot at this point would require axing a local. To do that to brining in LiAngelo would be a very bad look.

Pretty sure they couldn't release Boone unless they paid out his contract in full, he has past NBL experience so wouldn't be on the standard probationary import contract.

I think signing him isn't the worst idea, only if its at the expense of a local though.

Not worth cutting Boone for him, cutting Boone is only worth it now for a significant upgrade, 2hich gelo isn't.

They need an absolute stud to replace Brooks too, which Gelo isn't.

If they dropped one of their end of bench aussie guys for him, i don't think its the worst thing.

Time to get off Balls balls. If he leaves so be it, hasn't exactly been the mega star everyone was hoping for. Biggest thing is having a brand like Slam onboard. Ball himself is no game winning highlight reel that can’t miss. Oh but 'he’s only 18’... it’s not that young to be playing great for a prodigy. The brother need not attend. The hawks need a pro baller who can bring back some respectability, or the franchise is getting closer to finally folding.

I think the opposite.

Signing LiAngelo at the start of the season, instead of a local, would have been good.
But axing a local mid-season, in favour of LiAngelo who probably won't be any better? IMHO That's a bad look.

Okay don't bother reading any of the hundreds of posts that already address this - obly find another way to ask the same ignorant question
They dont have "2 vacant import positions" - they have one vacant slot since Brooks got injured and they are in the process of filling that - and they are not hiring Liangelo
to create another vacancy they would have to sack somebody - go figure - and they are not doing that to hire Liangelo
