The Period of Time After a Made basket?

I've never really given this much thought, and don't know the answer,
but what actually happens after a made basket?

The defending team must take the ball outside the baseline and inbound.
But what is the "status" of that gap in between.

I have always just assumed that (as in many sports) the ball is effectively "dead" and play is halted.

I don't recall having noticed this before, but that's probably just poor attention or memory on my part.

I've seen a couple of times recently where a player has been called for a foul "after the basket."
One was offensive off the ball.
In the other the defender was called for fouling the shooter, after the basket.
In both cases, the basket stood, and the foul was adjudicated.

In those two instances you observed, did it involve a "box out" of a player at the other end of the court?

(sorry Shayno)

The question is probably would it be a live ball foul or a dead ball foul. There is no whistle the clock is running and any fouls would be in a live ball situation

The ball is dead after a made basket and becomes live once at the disposal of the inbounder, but I'm not sure why it matters.

Always involves a box out but i think is misunderstanding when the ball is "dead"

Shayno keeps boxing out long after the game has ended.

You are also not allowed to break the end line when guarding. Tech foul if you do.

Firstly, that's not true, it's a delay of game. Secondly, so what?

"The ball is dead after a made basket and becomes live once at the disposal of the inbounder, but I'm not sure why it matters. "

Well, in between your obligatory being a dickhead, that comes reasonably close to an answer.

So, the ball is dead, but fouls can still be called?

I suppose that makes sense.

Why would the ball being dead mean fouls can't be called?
